Lacking in the little things, and one big thing
We decided to book this hotel based on the location, seriously just across the river from Louisville - in fact, the hotel is built over the flood wall. The staff of the hotel did a great job finding us a new room after we complained about the first floor location of our original room (don't let them put you on the first floor, whatever you do!).
The major problem is the bed. The mattress is probably original to the hotel. The mattress springs were worn out and able to be felt as individual coils as you move in your sleep. The bedding was also small in comparison to the size of the mattress, and sheet wars will occur. We found coffee stains on the bedspread - or at lease we hope it was coffee, and all the bedding was course, scratchy, and beginning to be threadbare in spots.
We were led to believe that the Hotel had been remodeled less than 10 years ago. I'm not sure if they did anything more than a cosmetic change. We found a noisy window air conditioning unit that was necessary to survive the heat, but impossible to sleep with on. The bathroom is TINY, and the sink squirted everywhere. The coffee for the coffee maker (located on the table on the opposite side of the room from the sink) was provided by the lowest bidder. The much touted all-you-can-eat continental breakfast buffet is the basic pastry and cereal that you expect from a hotel, and has been standard with a hotel stay since 1988. And, the staff closes that down before the 10 o'clock end time. The workout room is an actual hotel room that they put 5 pieces of exercise equipment in so close that you cannot get to the treadmill if someone is on the eliptical. The pool has a buoy crossing the middle of it so you cannot use it for lap swimming. Be prepared to wait a long time for the elevator - only 4 people can use it at a time, there are only 2 elevators, and both of them move v...e...r...y... slowly.
The bar in the hotel is quite nice. Paul, our barkeep for our stay, was very hospitable, and expertly cutting off the drunks. Unfortunately, the Hooters in the restaurant was lacking in service, and we left 10 minutes after being seated when no waitress came over.
Next time, I think we'll stay at the Galt House. Normally, I'd say that the price wasn't bad, but on the drive down, we found an ad in the Travel Saver hotel coupon book that was almost $20 less than the best rate we found on the net.
