NOT the place you want to stay!

The water park in this hotel is really the only positive I can say about Grand Prairie hotel and even that had a major drawback. The slides and lazy river are only turned on during the weekend hours. We did not know that until we were already checked in and went to swim. That was a big disappointment to our son and they refused to turn the slides on even though there were plenty of people swimming during the weekday hours.
We stayed in a room with two queen sized beds. The room was HOT and the A/C did not work. There was a de-humidifier in the room (so obviously they recognize this problem) but it was broken, too. As a result, the room was miserably uncomfortable temperature-wise.
At one point, there was a cockroach crawling up the wall, which added to the uncomfortable feeling of being in this room. The walls are thin and you can hear everything. When you're walking down the hallway, you can hear what people are talking about in the room when their door is shut!
The continental breakfast they advertise was also a disappointment. Especially when compared to some of the other surrounding hotels where we have stayed previously. The only time this hotel has a good breakfast available is on the weekends. Apparently, that is the only group they feel they need to accomodate. During the week, you are out of luck as you don't even get cereal (we were told because "there aren't enough people").
The third night we were there, it was so noisy I finally called the front desk and told them that apparently there was a herd of buffalo in the hotel. They were going to "have maintenance check it out" but the kids running and screaming continued until 3 am. It was LOUD and none of us could sleep. I'm not talking just late like 10 or 11 - I'm talking ALL NIGHT.
We stayed in a non-smoking room and at one point it began smelling as if somebody was smoking a cigarette in the room. The smell was VERY strong. We were told that the ventilation system was picking up cigarette smoke. They brought febreze to our room to "fix" the problem.
They advertise free movies to watch while you're staying there but those were not available. They have cable TV but no movies other than what you can find to watch, which is fine - but not what they advertise.
The people working the front desk (with a few exceptions) were rude and arrogant acting. If there was a problem brought to their attention, they just shrugged it off like it wasn't their problem or "oh well." I consider myself a reasonable and patient person and, considering the horrid experience we had at this hotel, I was still friendly. That didn't seem to matter - they just plain did not want to be bothered. Either that or they had heard these complaints so often that they didn't want to hear it. Either way - RUDE.
If you are visiting Hutchinson and want to go to this water park, pay the fee to go and stay elsewhere. This hotel is nasty, unclean, and unfriendly. . Let me just add that we were in town for a funeral and family members stayed in 6 other rooms. We all had the same experience - NOT GOOD. None of us liked the hotel, the rooms, the staff, or the fact that they advertise good things like water slides, continental breakfast, movies in the rooms, etc. but fall short on everything. This is NOT the place you want to stay in Hutchinson. YUCK!
