Valley West Inn, West Des Moines

I want to first say, the staff at the hotel is great. They were all very pleasant and service oriented. The food in the diner is great as well and the room service is FAST! The location of the motel is also very convenient and close to shopping, restaurants, etc. If you are staying for 1 night and want someplace inexpensive, this isn't a terrible choice. However, if you are going to be on an extended business stay (as I was), it isn't necessarily ideal. The rooms are decent enough (although don't be fooled by the so-called massive rennovations- they just put "make-up" on it). The rooms do have nice fridges and microwaves and free wi-fi, which they do not have listed on their website. The bed and pillows were great too. I just felt like nothing in the room worked properly. The alarm clock didn't work, the sleep timer on the tv did not work and the tv made a horrible screeching noise for the first 5-10 minutes every day when I turned it on until it warmed up. The microwave was not plugged in, nor was it anywhere near a plug it would reach to, so I had to pick it up and move it to a plug. The exhaust fan was so loud I was afraid to use it and although I certainly cannot complain about the lack of water pressure in the shower, it was like a fire hose shooting at you and was ridiculously loud! The one day I showered with the fan on, I felt like I was going to be completely deaf between that and the shower noise. I am not a high maintenance person by any means, but I expected something a little more pleasant when told over the phone that all of the guest rooms had been completely refurbished. The pool area is nice enough. The pool was a good temperature (heated), and the whirlspa attached to it is the same temp. Personally, I would much prefer a hot tub to soak in than a lukewarm pool with some jets. So, depends on what you are looking for if this hotel will be a good fit for you. I really like this place. It's so close to the mall and I could walk to the mall everyday if I wanted to!!!! This place makes me happy. Target, Hyvee, and Steinmart are right next door. My favorite mexican fast food joint, Chipotle's, is within walking distance!!!! There is a really good rennovation project going on at this hotel. This hotel is going to be the next big thing to happen!

I would go back, definitely. The bar was classy and comfortable. Homemade food served at the diner. The diner's been around West Des Moines for a long time, so it's considered a classic! The shopping mall was so close I could walk there. Great rennovation plan currently happening. Can't wait to go back next year!!!

pool was a little cold. whirlpool was the same temp as the pool. the floors were dirty. no towels in the pool area. the food was all over the pool area. a/c wasn't in good working order. the wallpaper was peeling. the bathroom had mildew. the chairs had water stains. towels were in the bathroom were threadbare. i wouldn't stay here again.

My husband,daughter, two grandsons age 4 and 5 and myself were planning on staying there two nights. There was an incident that happened in the swimming pool which my grandsons were in the pool at the time, which was very dangerous as they could have got hurt. My husband went to the front office and complained about what happened and the person that was in charge said they would handle it, the person than said, will if we complain to the people that was causing the dangerous situation, they will know its you that complained as we were the only other poeple there. So to that statement we decided it wasn't safe to stay there, so we checked out, and the person in charge said they would credit our credit card for the two nights we were planning on staying. (TWO MONTHS LATER MY CREDIT CARD HAS NOT BEEN CREDITED!!!!!)So do I have any good thing to say about this, NO!!

Things that I disliked: 1) Lock to the back door of room broken, had to use a pliers to lock door. 2) Curtain for back door broken 3) Light broken in room 4) Exhaust fan in bathroom sounded like it was going to fall apart 5) Pool was not operational 6) Work crew from Union Pacific railroad staying at hotel and were making noise all night long. Complained to front desk but problem continued.

We went as a senior softball team. The staff treated us very well. They altered the breakfast schedule to make sure the 3 teams that were staying there had time to eat before games. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and pretty spacious.

My stay at Valley West Inn was absolutley delightfull. The staff was some of the nicest people I've ever met. They consistantly made sure I had was I need. It was a very clean enviroment. Since I have children it is good to feel same when you are staying somewhere. I wouldn't think twice about coming back to this hotel.
