The very best service BAR NONE!!!
By ,
From the very beginning after booking the reservation, I was connected to the concierge (Landon), who answered any and all questions I had. (which were a lot) I went to Chicago to get engaged, I asked him for some possible suggestions, and he reserved me the complimentary Acura service car to take us to the navy pier, then he reserved us a river boat cruise (which was PHENOMENAL) where there were fireworks and drinks. He then set up a complimentary bottle of champagne and rose petals (to be scattered throughout the room) while we were on the cruise. Just WELL above and beyond what was expected. The room upgrade was complimentary as well. We went the weekend after July 4th. So I don't think it was a busy weekend AT ALL. (which I belive helped us in that) The room was very clean and modern. If you are looking for a friendly, clean, wonderfully located hotel in downtown Chicago, look no further!!! From what I gathered from our stay there the W stood for whatever, whenever. Which seemed like there couldn't be a more true statement. The best experience I have ever had at any hotel BAR NONE!!!

Excellent Service
By ,
My flight was delayed and I had an exhausting day of travel. At check-in they noticed I was flustered and offered me a complimentary beverage. Each time (I stayed 3 nights) I got off the elevator I was greeted by the friendly staff and door men. My room was a little small and I didn't have a premium view, but the hotel IS located in City Center. I would stay here again and definitely would recommend to a friend.

Finally, a hotel without 1970s decor.
By ,
I came here with my boyfriend a few months ago for a two-night stay. We had things planned around the city (concert, baseball game) so we didn't "chill" a lot in the room. The room was a little small in comparison to your typical hotel room. Although, my best friend did crash with us after a night at the bar, and she brought a pillow and blanket and set up her own nice little makeshift bed on the floor next to the window. She slept like a baby. The lobby is trendy, dark and bumpin' (with techno and dance music). The room itself looks like a Pottery Barn catalog with an urban flare. Our room had a flat-screen plasma tv with an iPod dock on the nightstand. My boyfriend popped on his iPod and we got pumped up for the Kanye West concert we were going to. This hotel was perfect for a weekend get-a-way. I love trying new things, so when I heard that the W Hotel offers a new and different atmosphere, I hopped on Priceline.com and booked a room. I'm more than happy to say that staying at this hotel definitely helped make our weekend in Chicago a memorable experience.

Would stay here again
By ,
What I liked: Clean hotel, very comfortable bed and pillows, nice in room amenities (LG flat screen TV, Tivoli alarm clock, Bliss bath products, plenty of towels). To address some other negatives I read before staying: We were in a room near the L, but the noise never bothered us. Plus the sounds of the L are synonymous w/Chicago so can be expected. The room is smaller than other hotel rooms I've stayed in, but didn't bother me since we only used it to sleep in for a night. You may want to consider booking one of their bigger rooms (although I haven't seen one in person) for a trip longer than a few nights. I wasn't planning on using the bath for soaking, but if you are one who enjoys a nice soak after enjoying all the city has to offer I will let you know the tub was small. Even taking a shower felt a little cramped, but wouldn't prevent me from staying there again. If you like the club/bar scene, this hotel is for you. The main floor has plenty of larger seating for sipping your cocktails and music filling the air. I like fun, but could have done without the music also blaring in the elevator (which makes me glad I didn't have a room near the elevators) Overall, nice downtown Chicago hotel, worth the price paid!

Bad In Every Department
By ,
Trendy hotel, downtown Chicago should be fun and relaxing, but it's not. Room service orders get messed up and it takes several calls to get it right. Housekeeping will not keep doors open while cleaning, so they constantly slam doors as they go in and out of rooms to get supplies. They yell at each other across the hallway, so you cannot sleep in. When you go outside to get a taxi, they do not fetch it by the order of who came first. Taxi's are fetched only if they recognize you as a tipper. If it's your first day at the hotel, they probably won't remember you, so you go last! For price tag of the tiny rooms, this hotel is not worth staying in, even though the decore is trendy.

an ok stay with kids
By ,
I stayed here with my wife and three kids under the age of 6. Based on some of the reviews I read here, I was a little concerned that the hotel would not be kid-friendly. But our experience was a good one. Yes the atmosphere is clubby and trendy (I think 'cheesy' is a probably a better description), but the staff was kind and helpful. They were quick to send up a crib when we asked for one, and they were happy to give us a late (1pm) check-out. The room was smallish but clean. We didn't need our car to get around town, so we saved a few bucks by skipping the valet parking ($45/day) and leaving the car in the public lot behind the hotel (entrance on LaSalle) for $23/day.

W Standard of Excellence
By ,
Ignore the bad reviews written YEARS ago. The hotel room was very modern and clean. We checked in late Friday night and the lobby was buzzing and similar to that of a nightclub lounge. The "anytime/anywhere" service was great - we called and the staff brought our phone charges to our room from our car in valet!! This is not near night spots, but the staff is helpful and can direct you there. The locale is great if you want to shop south State.

Vacation without the kids
By ,
LIKES: The best thing about this hotel is it's location & the great customer service. The food at the hotel was great for breakfast and okay for dinner or after hours meals. The employees that worked in the hotel were extremely friendly & helpful. For example, a guy from the hotel called two night clubs for us and got the cover charge comped, which was really great!:-) DISLIKES: The burgers we had weren't impressive, the meat was obviously frozen and overly grilled. The water in the room was hard on the skin/hair. The hall to our room was really dim & kinda scary when I was alone. Internet in the room was for a fee:-( OVERALL: Our trip to Chicago was awesome, and the stay at the W was too....I especially loved the cucumber and mint infused water that was in the lobby...Yummo!!! We will stay there again.

The best hotel I never stayed in
By ,
I never saw the hotel. Because of the untimely death of a close friend the night before I was scheduled to leave, I had no choice but to cancel my plans. I hoped that Yahoo! Travel would make an exception to their policy and issue me a refund for the two-night hotel rate that was charged up front. It seemed appropriate considering the circumstances - the death of a close friend coupled with the fact that I'm a college student on a very tight budget. but they didn't budge. no refund was issued, despite my attempts. because of their less-than-admirable business ethics, i think i'll avoid making reservations through these corporate drones in the future.
