Jury Still Out
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/7/07
Like an earlier poster, I was booked while the hotel experienced a water problem. We thought it strange that the somewhat snappish desk clerk wouldn't check us in, even though we couldn't receive keys until after 3:00pm. We realized when we returned that evening that their water problem was in effect earlier and they didn't tell us or try to rebook us eleswhere at that time. I can't review the hotel, but the Lobby was nice. Location would have been great for Rush/Divison street area. Free refreshments in the lobby was a good idea while waiting to be moved. A week later I still have unfinished business with the hotel. I prepaid through a third party and of course the new hotel where I was sent insisted on charging my credit card. So, I'm in the process of trying to get money back because either Ambassador or my new hotel didn't handle this situation properly.

Parking tip
The overall experience here was very good and the location very convenient. A tip about parking - if you pay cash to the parking attnedent out front when you leave, rather than paying at the hotel desk with the rest of your bill, you'll find it much cheaper - we saved over $30.00 for a three night stay/parking and only learned about the diffenrence because we happened to stop out front and asked about getting our car before we went to check out. 4/11/07

Pleasurable, to say the least!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/14/07
As soon as you wlk in the door you feel well cared for. The staff is wondeful; excellent in every way!!! They care about what you want to do and see while in Chicago and go the extra mile to make sure that you get what you wanted out of your trip. Everyone is very kind and sincere!!! I took my mom the first time and now I am planning a trip with my daughter!!!

Kind people
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/21/06
Very nice hotel in a good location. The personal is very friendly, and they really care for the guests. They sent me a forgotten item back to my home within 2 days after departure using FedEx.

City at it's Best
By Sue, 10/2/06
We came into the City with a whirl wind and had the most fabulous time ever!!!! The staff at the Hotel from the Valet to the Bell Boy, to the Persons at the desk. TOP notch is not giving the staff enough credit. Best vacation I have had in 10 years. The Pump room was a delight and I strongly recomentthe Amish Chicken for dinner...Yum! If you get the chance, you must check out Jillys for the most exciting dance and drinks of Chicago.

You can't lose staying here
By timnhope, 6/18/06
My husband and I were in town to see a Cubs game and found this gem on Priceline for $175 per night. After reading the reviews, I felt good about this choice. When I walked into the hotel I felt like I was walking into a piece of history. The hotel was showing her age, but in a good way. The staff from the doormen to the maids could not have been friendlier and more helpful. The hotel itself, our room and the restaurant could not have been more beautiful. Our only insignificant issue was that we stayed in a regular room with one queen. The room was a little small by newer hotel standards and the bathroom was very small. We would absolutely stay here again.

Disappointed
By Juan, 5/30/06
Made reservations several months ago for two rooms with two double beds because we were attending a wedding at the Pump Room over Memorial Day weekend. Arrived to find that they didn't have the rooms we reserved. They had a single bed room and offered a roll-away bed. Also paid $36.00 for valet parking only to discover later that the rear bumper had the paint scraped and also had white latex paint. It appears it the car was backed into a wall or fence. Hotel is old and dated. Doors and moldings are covered with many lawers of paint. Facet in the bath was the type you press to turn on. The water would remain running for over 50 seconds after being release.

Old World charm
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/2/06
This old world decorated hotel was easy walking distance to the subway station, restaurants, grocery & drug stores --all within 2-3 blocks. However it was quite a walk to the Magnificent Mile to the south and the Zoo to the north. Nevertheless you can take the bus/subway if you can navigate well. I would stay again for the good value. The few elevators in the building took forever to get to your floor. Take the stairs if you're in a rush. Bathroom was a bit tight for 2 people at the same time. The room however was huge with 2 queens.

I loved this hotel, the ambiance, the Pump room. The people were nice. Prices were just right! Nice neighborhood resturants, and the lake just a few blocks away! Fabulous!
