Excellent stay in Chicago
I travel a lot, and often stay in Hyatts, Sofitels, and others along the same line. Though many of the reviews many not convey my thoughts, the service here at the Ambassador East is phenomenal, as is the room. A comfortable bed, clean bathroom with marble and Gilchrist and Soames toiletries, a HUGE bedroom, coffee maker (which is usually non-existent in 4-star hotels -- they usually want you to pay $7 for a cup of coffee delivered by room service), a very well-stocked and moderately priced mini-bar ($6/mini-bottle), a huge selection of refreshments in your room to choose from (cashews, gummi bears, altoids, pistachios, pringles, jelly beans, chips, a number of packaged candies, and more -- all for a modest price for a hotel)...I don't know what more to ask for. No chain 4-star hotel gives this (at least not without spending a bit).
I have found my stay here so far (I'm actually still here while writing this) very pleasant, and better than expected. I read the reviews after booking and was a bit skepitcal, but the bad reviews are obviously the result of an uncommon, unfortunate situation. The walls here are thin, but unless you go to bed before 10, then you'd never realize it. It's a nice quiet hotel. Perfect for the business traveller and close to so much. The Clark/Division subway stop is only a few blocks away. You are in a short walk from the Magnificent Mile and only a couple blocks away from one of the best areas to bar-hop in Chicago, as well as close to 24-hour drug and convenience stores.
Next time I come to Chicago, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to stay at the Ambassador East again.
