Wyndham Blake Chicago, Chicago

I took my two sons with me for a three-day stay, and everything was fine. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room clean and very nicely appointed, and the location convenient to the Loop and major tourist sites. I see they had negative feedback in the past, but we saw none of this during our visit. It is located near very budy streets, but is so well insulated we could hear no traffic or street noise. We would go back for another visit without hesitation.

Great Location, very friendly staff, and the rooms are beautiful. My wife and I just celebrated our 25th Anniversary there and the hotel enhanced our experience. Easy access to CTA and within easy walking distance to theatre district, field museum, and waterfront. Easy nearby parking if you do not want to use the valet.

Great service, friendly staff, beautiful rooms, Custom House is good resturant, the waitress was very helpful in recommending other good resturants in the area. Convienent location to Art Institute and Field Museum

My husband and I recently stayed at the Hotel Blake, even after reading questionable reviews. I called and talked to the staff beforehand and was assured that all constructioin has been completed so we took a chance. I'm glad we did. The hotel is decorated in a very modern, streamlined style. We loved the walk-in shower and bold colors of the decor. (Zebra print chairs in the lobby... loved those!) Granted, there are no vending machines, only an ice machine, but they do offer room service from the restaurant downstairs for all meals. There are several places within a block to grab a bite or drink - Starbucks, Panera, Orange (GREAT brunch! Zagat rated), 7-11, BP, etc.). The best part is that you are only a few blocks from Michigan Avenue and the Loop, as well as all modes of public transportation. I have stayed at more luxurious hotels, but I have also paid much, much more. For the price and location, we were very pleased and plan to stay there in future trips to Chicago. (P.S.: I lived in Chicago for 3 years, so I've seen it all there. If you want a spa onsite, this place is not for you. But if you want a nice place to stay and see the city without breaking the bank, then this is it.)

This hotel was a great value. The marble bathroom was very clean and the shower was wonderful. The fluffy down bed and pillows were so comfortable that I forgot I was in a hotel.

We liked that they had valet service, not very familiar with parking in Chicago, so this was a definate plus. The front desk service was OK, but the service from the valet more than made up for poor front desk service. The clerk at the front desk told us to go up the ramp and take a left. Our room was on the first floor so I assumed I would turn the corner and find some rooms, but then I saw that there were elevators there. The clerk forgot to mention that to get to first floor rooms you need to go up to the second floor and then back down a small set of steps to where the rooms are located. The valet was very polite at check in and carried all luggage as expected. Later we had some things on our list to do but we wanted some suggestions on places to eat and drink. A different valet suggested some really nice places to go and we were very pleased by his enthusiam. The rooms were a lot smaller than expected, but very stylish and modern. I would say overall value a little high, but great location, so we expected the rates we got. I agree with the other reviews about internet connection, not a great place to conduct business, but perfect for pleasure.

We booked our room before reading reviews on Hotel Blake. After reading some of the reviews people gave on different sights, I was not looking forward to staying there. But I was pleasantly surprised. I called ahead a requested a room and they reserved a nice room, in a top floor with some what of a view. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. Location, location, location...the reason for staying in downtown Chicago was for all the tourist stuff. We were in walking distance of everything. We were lucky enough to plan our trip during the Taste of Chicago, we had a wonderful 10 min walk to Grant Park, where the taste is held, which is surrounded by The Shedd Aquarium, the Art Museum of Chicago, The Field Museum, Millenium Park. From The Blake to Sears Tower was a 15 min walk. The fitness center, which we took advantage of, was awesome. Great cardio equipment. Nice plasma. Our room was very nice, bathrooms were huge. Air/heat control...nice. We had free wireless internet connection, which was great. Downsides...TV reception was horrible but we didn't go to Chicago to watch TV so we didn't mind that too much. No plasma's in rooms and no Tv's in bathroom as advertised on some sights. The elevator was broken a couple of times and at one point we had to climb up 11 flights of stairs, I wasn't too happy about that, good exercise though. So overall I enjoyed our stay at the hotel. I recommend it especially if you're touring Chicago.

Furnishings are attractive, and the rooms felt very spacious. Check-in was quick and incident-free. Check-out was equally efficient. Room service is on the expensive side. (I highly recommend Orange, just 1 block southwest of the hotel, for excellent, ecelectic breakfast/lunch fare. We stayed at The Blake two nights and dined at Orange two consecutive mornings -- that's how good the food was!) Our particular room had a marble hallway and bathroom, and we had a standard-sized bathtub. The showerhead, however, was low-flow, so it made for a challenging "jump-in-jump out" shower experience. The complimentary wireless internet connection was a handy amenity. Getting to/from major hotspots on Dearborn/State was a breeze. Additionally, the 24-hour fitness center was a plus, though we didn't have a chance to enjoy it. My only complaint: I'm not sure if it's because we acquired a super-inexpensive rate on Hotels.com, but we were assigned Room 101, which is in the back of the hotel and directly above the garbage canisters. Early Monday morning found us being awakened by the not-so-brief roar of the garbage truck emptying the dumpsters. The view from this room was acceptable to us (it faces the back of another building on the next street over), as we wanted privacy. Eats: Across the street (east) is a Starbucks, just next door is a Potbelly Sandwiches, and across the street heading south is a White Hen. Overall, we had a good experience at The Blake. However, I'm hoping the next time we try it, we'll end up with a nicer (and quieter) view.

I thought the Blake was an incredible hotel for the price that I paid. The rooms were beautiful, I especially liked the bathroom and she shower. The hotel was very quiet and elegant. I stayed there on New Years and a lot of the renovation was still being done. I thought my room was great and would definitely recommend it to others.

Stayed over the weekend in the early part of May. The room was very clean, attractive, and comfortable. My friend and I walked all over Chicago, and although there may be hotels closer to the areas we visited, the Blake was a better price. Didn't try the restaurant, but it looked inviting. Only encountered small glitches here and there, like trying to find the ice machine (hint: it's on the 12th floor), or not having the key card work on the front door (but the Desk staff saw us and let us in). Overall, I would definitely visit again.
