10 reviews for Route 66 Hotel and Conference Center, Springfield
I will never go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/21/08
I booked my daughter's wedding reception here for August 2008 and two months later I am STILL trying to get things straightened out. I had nothing but problems with this hotel beginning 3 months prior to the reception date. Too late to book another hall, I was stuck. The manager we had dealt with to get everything planned in the beginning left the hotel and we had to go make all plans again. That happens, I know. Not a problem. I was told all prices we had been quoted would still apply. Wrong!!! However, you don't find out that is not true until after the reception. I had to go out to the hotel each week a month before the wedding to attempt to get plans straight with them. Each time we had to go over everything again from food to table decorations to hall decorations and colors. Each time everything was entered into the computer and for some reason the next week things were not right yet again. The last time I had to go was 2 day's before the wedding. I was told they would decorate Friday nite so I would be able to make sure it was done right. It was not. I checked on it after our rehersal dinner and I had a print out of what was supposed to be on the tables. We were supposed to have medium cylinders with rock and 2 small votive candles on a mirror. That is not what we had at all. We ended up with some big 4 or 5 candle tower thing or something. I was told I would have to wait until morning to talk to someone in charge of the reception hall. I waited. The next morning I was told they showed I did not get the room until 3:30 and I would have to wait until then to change the table decorations. I had to argue that my guests would be there by then and that was not acceptable. We were supposed to have corn and green beans and mashed potatoes and gravy. Gravy was never put out and they served the corn first and when it was gone then they put the green beans out. Not at the same time as we were told. I had been quoted a price for my room with the first manager I spoke with. After she left I spoke to a new manager and was assured that price would be honored. The next time I went out I had to talk to yet a new manager and I again confirmed the price of things including my room and was told they were correct. The day I checked out I was charged double for my room and was told by yet a different manager there was no way my suite could only be $90.00, even though that's what I was told all along and confirmed with each person I spoke to. After my daughter came back from her honeymoon she went out to speak with the owner of the hotel to express her dissatisfaction of how her reception was handled. She was told I would be credited for one nite of my two nite stay as I had been told in the beginning. That has never happened. The next month I received my visa bill, they had charged me for a guest's room who attended the reception and paid for their own room. I called to have the charge taken off my card. They said they removed it and guess what. The next month not only is the first room not removed but I have ANOTHER room charge on there. I called to speak to the manager I had dealt with the month before and he is no longer there. It has been one fiasco after another. I believe there is a severe managerial problem at this hotel and I would not recommend it to anyone. If you decide to disregard these comments good luck to you. I hope you are a patient person.

Don't stay here
By Jen, 08/11/08
From the minute I got to the hotel, I did not receive a good impression. First off the bat, they told me they did NOT have my hotel reservation because their computers were down. Then they tried to charge me $85/night instead of the $72 I had on my PRINTED CONFIRMATION e-mail. The first room they put me in had a screwed up lock, the second was OCCUPIED, and finally the third worked. However, I had to stand in the hallway for fifteen minnutes holding my bags, while everyone from the manager, to the maids, and maitenance people scurried around trying to find a room. Not organized at all. Second, the wi-fi didn't work at all while I was there, and I needed it for business. The cable tv didn't either, all I got was static. When I complained to the front desk, nothing was done at all, despite promises. The vending machines didn't work for me either. The location was good, but for what I paid...I will never ever stay there again. Good riddance.

I love Rt.66 Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/06/08
Everything was exceptional! I have no complaints with anything. Very friendly staff and the restaurant was worth the money, the menu items were very fair priced and the breakfast buffet was delicious. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Springfield.

Very Poor Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/28/07
Arrived on Friday, they had our room assignment wrong. Got sick from the food in the restaurant and received very poor service there. Asked to speak to a manager and they took my room number but we never received a response. Returned home to find a charge on our card that was in error. Called to have it removed and was rudely told they could do nothing about it. Had to dispute the charge to our card. I'm amazed that the first few reviews of this hotel are so glowing. Maybe they were written by the owners? speaking of owners the staff would not connect us to them or give us their numbers stating that "they wouldn't call you back anyway" We stay at many hotels each year and we WILL NOT STAY HERE AGAIN.

VERY UNIQUE HOTEL!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/20/06
WHAT A UNIQUE HOTEL. NEVER STAYED IN ONE LIKE IT. THERE WERE TWO AUTHENTIC ANTIQUE CARS IN LOBBY WHEN I WALKED IN. THAT SHOWED ME RIGHT AWAY THIS PLACE WAS REALLY SOMETHING DIFFERENT. CHECKING IN WAS SMOOTH AND PLEASANT BUT THE BEST WAS YET TO COME. I FOUND MYSELF MARVELING AT ALL THE HISTORICAL PIECES DISPLAYED ALL ALONG THE HALLWAYS. WHAT AN ASSORTMENT. SO MUCH STUFF THERE I LOST TRACK OF TIME AMONGST ALL OF THE MEMORIES THERE. WHAT A UNUSUAL IDEA AND IT IS LOCATED RIGHT ON THE "MOTHER ROAD" AS THEY CALL IT. REALLY HAD AN ENJOYABLE STAY. TELLING EVERYONE I KNOW ABOUT THIS PLACE. ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO STAY THERE. YOU WON'T REGRET IT.

Great Place!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/20/06
Nice smaller hotel on south side of Springfield located on the original Route 66. Actually it is located on the same street as the new Lincoln Presidential Library. I've been a fan of Route 66 for some time so I really enjoyed staying amongst all of the history. What a super place to walk back memory lane. You can sure tell the owner's care about this place. It sure is kept nice. Food in Diner was just fine. Rooms were nice. I really enjoyed my stay an dwill return. What a pleasant stay!

Memories Galore
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/20/06
Found this place on line so I had to visit to check it out. I wanted to see the Lincoln Presidential Library so arranged to stay here just down the street from it. This hotel is located on the original Route 66 at a great location. Found it easily and checked in easily. Nice friendly staff. I was amazed at all the antiques and memorabilia. They even have two authentic antique autos in the lobby. What an opportunity to get so many glimpses into the past I found myself walking for over an hour after supper. Food is diner was just great. Staff could not be friendlier. Room was just fine. Fresh and clean. Wireless internet throughout. It was one great stay. Oops almost forgot about the super breakfast buffet. Got my fill before hitting the road. Will definitely tell others about this and will certainly be back!

Will never stay here again.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/06
Dirty carpet, scratched up counter in bathroom area. Complained and received only a nasty attitude. Overpriced for quality of room. Cold fries and cold eggs in their diner. Service also slow in all areas, the diner, check-in, check-out. Overcharged on credit card and had to call when arrived home. Put on hold ridiculous amount of time, no customer service here.
