GREAT PRICE - CLEAN - LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
By Christoff, 04/21/09
I just traveled to the hotel last week after the Easter holiday. I was skeptical based off of what I have read about the elevators and rooms. The elevators worked great, the rooms were clean. I booked online for more than three days in a row and got $85 a night. The place is very well located. You can walk almost anywhere from here. The hotel has no restaurant or pool, but who cares! Took my wife and two boys and we will be back to this hotel.

Not all it's cranked up to be
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/24/09
We did like the proximity of the hotel for the price and some of the staff. The quality of service and room amenitites all depends on the check-in person--not when you made your reservation or whether or not you upgraded. Some of staff has really bad attitude, while others (like the doorman -- were wonderful). We had a party of four (2 rooms) both were upgrades..but both had to be changed once due to noise and quality of room. No restaurant..but still crank up cost of food to room with $3.00 delivery charge and 20% mandatory service fee -- we figure you still have to tip the waitperson. Pillows -- very hard -- Beds.. if you're lucky you'll get a refurbished room with pillowtop bed..if not you get a rock hard bed with no cushion what-so-ever. No trash can in the lobby -- what a pain. No ice tubs in the room -- only two floors with Ice machines -- and very slow elevators. Elevators are split so you can't use any elevator and it is a pain if you have more than one party involved. Business Center is a J-o-k-e. Non-maintained and abused machines don't work and there is no one available to assist. Just some real basic considerations just aren't there--I will not spend another $2,000 with this hotel again.

Horrible Place to Stay!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/03/08
Excellent location, but that is all that the hotel has going for it. When we checked in, the front desk was very eager to have us upgrade our room. However, they forgot to mention that their are only two elevators for our floor and that they were not working properly. We had to wait over 30 for an elevator to arrive and be unable to get on because it was too full. We had to take the stairs from the 37th floor. Horrible place!

Depends on what you need
By beng, 11/23/07
We stayed there for a weekend for a wedding in early novemeber. We were in a renovated room with no view, but the room was very nice. Huge comfortable bed. If you need a place to sleep at an affordable price, this is the hotel for you. If you need a place with a restaurant and great staff etc, and you are going to be spending lots of time in your hotel, not for you. no bar, lounge, etc. Good location, great price. The rooms are put together, but no one though of the details, like actually having an outlet within 30 feet of the coffeemaker they give you. Or have a shower head situated where you can actually shower without leaning into the shower door, etc. But all in all, very chic designer new, definitely being renovated still, but great price and great location fits your bill, then this is the place for you, if you want a nice restaurant, lounge, etc, you have hard rock and conrad, etc down the road.

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/07
I recently stayed at Hotel 71 and I have to stay it was a big disappointment. This hotel calls itself a renovated "luxury boutique" hotel and it is definitely NOT. The bathroom was old and only moderately updated, the tub had a large chunk of porcelin missing that had been painted over, one of the elevators was out of order during our stay which made the wait quite long since the elevators are old and slow to begin with. Our room did not come with plush bathrobes as their website suggests and the curtains on the windows were sheer with side panels. Not exactly ideal for sleeping in with the sun blazing in at 6 am. The maid in the morning proceeded to walk in AS she was knocking to our room at 8 am. The room was fairly clean, but the decor was very plain, not what I would call luxury boutique the only slightly interesting thing was the lobby. For the pricetag this hotel is NOT worth the money. It is not luxury boutique at all.

Terrible!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/10/07
Well, we got there and it was about $40 a day!!! The lobby was small and cramped. The elavators smelled like old pb&j. At 3 am, there was a party going on upstairs. I called the front desk, but they didn't do anything about it. In the morning the resturant was terrible. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!

Great location and view but updates needed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/05/07
Recently had a "girls getaway" and stayed at Hotel 71. The rates were best for the area and the view from the hotel was terrific! Our room was especially roomy and clean, however the lobby area and hallways needed better lighting and updating. We were told the hotel is under rennovations but the ice machine is a pain to get to and we never found soda machines. Would also be nice if there was a restaurant or bar. Overall we were pleased but hope the rennovations make it even better.
