Clean and Convenient
By ,
We stayed for a couple of nights. A very clean and nice room. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. Our kids were very impressed after staying in a higher-priced hotel on the Big Island. 5 minute walk from the hustle and bustle of Wakiki. Very quiet, and the free breakfast doesn't hurt either. I booked early on the Best Western website and locked in a better rate by paying for the room up front.

We Would Love To Go Back In 2009
By ,
The Hotel Was Excellent We Loved It. The Management And Staff Were Friendly. They Treated Us Like Family They Really Took Good Care Of My Wife And I. The Hotel Is Under Renovation And We Ended Up In One Of The Renovated Rooms. It Was Wonderful Well Worth The Money We Paid. The Continental Breakfast Was Great. The View We Had Of The Canal Was Good We Just Enjoyed Ourself Tremendously. After Our First Day Visit To The North Shore Side Of Oahu We Turned Our Rental Car In. We Could Do Everything Else We Needed Without A Car. This Was Our 30th Wedding Anniversary And This Hotel Made It A Very Special Time For Us We Highly Recommend This Hotel And Will Certainly Tell Others About It. We Give It 4 Point 9 Stars

Not bad
By ,
We just came back from our weeklong stay in Waikaki. We stayed at Coconut plaza hotel which came in our package from American Airlines. Lobby is not as good as it looks in the pictures but its ok. Breakfast is not great, same menu everyday, not much of a choice, if you are a cereal lover you will not get it in this breakfast! All you get is 2 fruits, bread and muffin, juice and coffee. WE are upgraded to mountain view which was helpful for us because our son loved to sit in the balcony which was facing the Canal. These rooms could be very noisey in the night becasue they are right next to the main road. But view was great. Room is not so big but enough for a couple. Kitchenette was really helpful for us to cook something for us. Bathroom was always smelly even after housekeeping :( Million thanks to the inventor of 'ABC Stores'. They are everywhere in Waikiki. These stores are something like 7/11 little bigger but you get all you need, they are located on every block. We were everyday shoppers at these stores as we decided to drink the bottled water rather than the fountain one at the hotel which was looking dirty. Water and milk are the two most expensive stuff. If you are thinking of renting a car, DON'T DO THAT MISTAKE, because you will not need one. I am saying this because the public transportation system is too good to miss, there are buses, trolleys running up and down the town all day long, very freequent and very convinent. They go and all possible places, airport, beaches, shopping centers, etc, etc. AND THEY COST ONLY $2. If you thinking of driving everywhere you will spend half of your time in finiding a parking and you have to pay for parking in every possible place including in the hotel (nearly $10 PER DAY) So forget about renting a car. Just go by bus and enjoy the town. There are several free trolleys to go to shopping centers and big stores have their own picup and dropoff buses and trolleys. If you love to walk you will love living in the hotel, it is situated in walkable distance to International shopping center, Waikiki beach, and many more shopping places. We loved walking on these streets. Overall not a bad choice for the price.

Nice cheap hotel
By ,
We stayed here for 2 nights. The price is very low ($86) and the place is clean and comfortable. They even have microwave and a kitchen sink in the bedroom. It's an older hotel no doubt, it could use some renovation but we were not looking for a five-star place to stay. The staff was polite and helpful. They have continental breakfast (don't expect much though) and you have to pay for valet parking ($9.50 per day). The driveway can be a bit confusing at first but it's typical city. The tunnel next to the hotel is nice. It takes about 5-10 minutes to walk to the shops and beaches.

Nice But Noisy
By ,
My wife and I stayed at the Aston Coconut Plaza for 5 nights in May '05. We had booked a Studio Kitchenette City View, but they automatically upgraded this to a Mountain View at no extra charge. The view over the Ala Wai canal to the green volcanic hills north of downtown Honolulu was spectacular. Waikiki beach was a walk of maybe 10 minutes. We loved the spaciousness of the room, which was clean and--though showing its age--was basically in good repair. The bathroom ceiling sprung a leak, but the staff fixed it immediately. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. We didn't prepare meals there, but noted there wasn't much in the way of utensils, etc., and the can opener was broken. There was a coffee maker in the room but no coffee was supplied. The continental breakfast was very simple but adequate. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the valet parking (the only parking option) always produced our car quickly. The major drawback is the horrendous traffic noise from busy Ala Wai Blvd. The geography and/or construction seems to amplify the racket, even on the top floors and the rooms not facing the boulevard (they showed us another room when we asked for something quieter, but it was no improvement). Trucks, motorcycles, zooming cars (seemingly all without mufflers), etc., sounded like they were a foot away. I couldn't sleep without inserting ear plugs and sandwiching my head between two pillows. In sum: nice hotel, good location, and great bargain if you can cope with the noise.

Easy going and uncrowded
By ,
The Coconut was better than we expected. The staff, especially Mark and Will, were excellent. The hotel is 4 blocks from the beach - so it was easy to get around the traffic. They only offer valet parking, so we never walked far from our rental car to the hotel - and the fee is very reasonable. The room was clean with it's own lanai (balcony). Breakfast was so good with lots of local flavors that we already miss. 24 hour coffee in the lobby was always fresh, and the staff was more that helpful in giving us directions and excellent advice on restaurants and sightseeing. In the mornings - talk to the Consierge. He got us the BEST seats at the Polynesian Cultural Center's night show! The coin laundry was handy and the garden setting of the hotel was like coming back to a resort rather than a hotel. Very nice.

What you pay is what you get.
By ,
The hotel is fairly well-placed and relatively clean. But the staff can be very rude as they seem to have a steady stream of "old friends" staying at the hotel. If this is the first time you are going there expect to be given the noisiest rooms (even when you book on-line and specifically request a quiet room -rather than one with a view) and poor service.

two desk clerks think it is a grand joke to send you to wrong destinations; give erroneous information; refuse to help you make phone calls; booking agent for tours rude when he bothers to show up.
I went to sheraton waikiki for help with a tour--they told me that was my hotel concierge's job and I should insist on it.
