A Good Buy For First Timers
I stayed here my first trip to the island and I have to say, for a budget minded traveler, it's a great deal for the money. It is clean and comfortable. The room I had was on the 14th floor overlooking the park and facing the ocean. A totally great view of the Waikiki strip at night and convenient to most everything. Beach is about two blocks walking, takes about 10 minutes(these are long blocks).
My room came with a small refrigerator so you can stock up on snacks(highly recommended) and that way you don't have to take the elevator down to the lobby for a Coke or whatever. The bed was comfortable and I had no trouble sleeping. The pool is on the backside of the hotel and is adequate. However, it was like sunning yourself on a rooftop(which it is). The bar just inside the pool is fun and drink prices are really fair for your standard mai tai and blue hawaiins. I think they were a buck or so.
But, the real reason you are there is Waikiki and it is worth spending a lot of time there. The Ohana is located at one end of the strip and you can start off there and walk up the beach or main drag to your heart's content. Now that I know what's what, next time I will try to stay at one of the beachfront hotels because that's a kick in itself. But, you have to pay for your kicks. If you're looking for any inexpensive stay, try the Ohana. You will be pleased.
