The maintence of the complex is very good. It's location was perfect for our activites, and we took advantage of the activites center- booking a sunset dinner cruise. The unit(302A) was a differt story. It is in need of repairs to bring it up to acceptable. We had a problem with doors not closing- stains through out the units carpet- tears in the kitchens' vinyl floor- dresser drawers that would not slide or close- and a extreme lack of water pressure in the shower of the bedrooms bath. I realize these units are individually owned and getting a good unit is the luck of the draw-but the management of this complex must know that units like this are doing nothing to better their reputation. I plan on returning to Maui in September for four weeks and the Maui Sunset is not in my plans.

We have stayed at the Maui Sunset for over 25 years and keep extending the length of our trips every year. The great price for the Maui Sunset allows us to stay longer. You do have to watch who you rent from and what room you get. Most of the rooms have be remodeled and are very clean and nice, but there are still a few that are just nasty and the owners should not be allowed to rent them,,,, they give the Maui Sunset a bad name. We love the place because they are well stocked condo's, great view, wonderful grounds and pool. Yes the beach is not great, but there are 4-8 other beaches within 20 minutes, go and explore! Slow elevator... sure, but you're on vacation so slow down! Can't wait to return in April! Like others have said, if you want waited on .... go somewhere else and pay for it!

We stayed in 121B and couldn't ask for more. The view is fantastic from the kitchen and from the patio. There are plenty of good restaurants, grocery stores etc. nearby. We found our accomidations clean and comfortable.

Descent both on location and value. We were s'posed to receive a room with a partial ocean view - the view turned out to be miniscule or next to 0 - had to stretch our necks to see the view. Blankets and carpets were NOT clean. Some blankets had holes from wear and tear. Lastly they got our dates all screwed up and security knocked on our door one night at 2.30AM - not the most pleasant experience.

I didn't get what I expected at all. The room was bad, the elevator took forever to move, the staff was not friendly at all. Our room had a weird smell to it. The condo complex may be waterfront, but there sure isn't a beach. Unless you enjoy laying on coral. I don't recommend it. The grounds were great though. I loved the pool and shuffleboard. It was fun to watch people play tennis. The sunsets were great too. I mean we were in Maui after all. If you don't mind people around, then you won't really mind that there's a public access on the property.

Maui Sunset is an ideal Condominium establishment. If you are looking for a quiet place with a great view, clean rooms and all the amenities you would find in your own home, then Maui Sunset is your place. It is within 10 minutes of the Wailea beach which is gorgeous, and within 10 minutes of Ma'ala harbor where many activities depart from. My husband and I are in our thirties and found everything here to be quite nice for our first trip to Maui. Trust me, I've travelled. I wasn't expecting the Ritz Carlton but what I got was a comfortable home base for 9 days. Left me plenty of money to dine at Mama's, Pacific'O and other great local spots. If you're looking for someone to pamper you then look elsewhere but if you're looking for exceptional value and outstanding sunsets then this is really a nice place to be for a week, or 6 as most of the people are there for.

Our fourth stay at the Maui Sunset was spent in the infamous Suite 121B.Tales of a condo gone bad had us on line to the rental agent whom we had used the other three times. They were responsive and assured us the story posted were not correct...and we had their guarantee that the condo would meet our expectations re cleanliness( with a 21 month old grandchild that was important)and overall condition or they would make it right .As usual,Kumilani came through for us and that is why we have recomended them to other friends who have also been happy with the arrangements made. If you are looking for a $600 room for $125 then don't call. If you have done any travelling at all you realize that at these prices you won't be getting brand new surroundings. We want clean, comfortable condos with a responsive manager who will react to any problems that we bring to their attention and Kuhmilani had never disappointed.The joy of seeing your grand daughter running out of the lanai door onto the great expanse of lawn makes the Sunset such a special place.Sorry, our blender remained on the counter and coachroaches were not a part of our life.It is regrettable anyone would have such a negative experience at the Sunset but as evidenced by other comments on this site, this is the exception not the rule.At the risk of not being able to get to book a condo there in the future we would recomend the Maui Sunset to anyone ( especially families) looking for value in Maui.And we would happily stay in 121b again! We just got back from our 16 day honeymoon! This was our first visit to Maui/Hawaii. We spent half of it here at the Maui Sunset. I must admit I was scared after reading some negative feedback/comments on the place. When we pulled into the parking lot I was really disappointed thinking I was going to really not like this place. We were too early so they wouldn't let us check in. So we drove around the area to find out what was around us, etc. We came back to check in and again, I was very scared pulling in the parking lot--you just have to remember you are pulling into the BACK of this condo. It felt like we were pulling into the Days Inn. We checked and finally got to our room. We opened the door and we both were in complete shock! This places is absolutely gorgeous! WE LOVED IT!!!!!! Our condo was flawless! It was clean, well-maintained and decorated very nicely! It felt very homey and warm. Then to step out on the balcony and see the beautiful surroundings just topped off the stay. The grounds are manicured so perfect we called it the "Brady Bunch Grass". Theres so many fun things to do here. Tennis courts, shuffleboard and a well taken care of pool. I cannot say enough good things about this place. The closests were stacked with things for us to use, including swimming fins, pool toys, coolers and games and tons of other things. The kitchen had everything you would ever want to use. I would give this place 5 stars but there were just a few problems we encountered...The first one was the front desk & the activities desk. When we first got there they were actually not very nice at all! We then booked 3-4 activities through the activities desk. I got very ill during our vacation and had to rebook one of our activities and we literally were on the phone and bounced all over the place at the condo for a good hour. The activities woman was on vacation after we booked these things and had no one to fill in for her. They should really have someone filling in if someone goes away! It was very aggravating! But, it all worked out and we finally took care of it. The other bad thing was you CAN'T swim at the beach..I heard two different stories on why you cannot swim there...Also, we were told when we got there the elevator was out and the pool was closed 4 days out of our week + stay. Both things were closed due to renovations. Now, when your staying on the 4th floor and theres no elevator..try bringing up your groceries..it really was aggravating! What a bummer, too to find out you can't go swimming in your own pool! It wouldn't have been that bad if you could swim in the ocean there but you can't. With those only being the few minor complaints I'll DEFINITELY being going back to this place! Its perfect! Next time, I'll make sure the elevator and pool are working and book all my activities myself! Thats just my point of view...You will not be disappointed with this place...We both were happily & pleasantly surprised on how gorgeous it really was!!

Just returned from the maui sunset on June 11, 2005. Now on first impressions when you drive into the entrance you think the place is kind of shabby looking from the outside. But then you realize once you go in that the rooms are in excellent condition and provide everything you could ever want in a room. They do not provide room service unless your stay is for 2 weeks. Most of the money invested in this place diffently went to the pool area and grounds which are well kept and people are very friendly. Very nice sunset views, would be a 4 star place if they provided a beach area. The beach is not groomed so you have to travel to the public beaches which is just a short 10 minute drive. So overall I give this place a 4 star rating again dont look for the marriott and you wont be dissapointed. However if your looking for the best bang for your buck then this place is worth it all the way.

Good value great location, not a swimming beach however, nice to walk, near great beaches, GREAT VIEWS!!!Especially ocean front units. We've been 3 times and would go back again.
