Description

The lovely Maui Lu stands out amidst the condominiums and high-rises of South Kihei Road. It's fairly far north; while still in Kihei, it's well past the hotel strip. The first thing one notices about the property is its lawn. The vast green expanse seems more like a meadow, albeit a perfectly manicured one. Inside, the hotel is spacious and elegant, with comfortable, pretty rooms and a full range of outdoor activities. Even for Aston, a company known for its low rates, this is a great value.

Not a safe place to stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/1/11
Very pretty place, nice landscaping, but old rooms. No security cameras so when my laptop got stolen out of my room they couldn't help us. Their Luau workers distracted my parents and one went into my room and stole my laptop. My parents were watching me and my friend swim in the ocean and made sure to keep an eye on our room. We left it unlocked thinking being so close it would be safe, we were proved wrong.

Want to return to Paradise....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/24/10
My husband and I were there in March/2007. Spent our 24 anniversary there and wow, can see the whales better than any other place we've been to in the whole State of Hawaii, just outside your windows. The grounds were fantastic and the Aloha spirit was strong. First few days of our adventure we didn't have a rental car, but the bus stop is very near (practically across the road). Bus drivers have the complete Aloha Spirit also and were very friendly and helpful. (Can go all over the Island if you want). Loved it and hope to come back next year on our anniversary and bring the family.

Perfect for a weekend.
By Paulina, 7/28/09
Yes, it's rundown and a little dirty, but my a/c worked great and there were no bugs in my room. very island feels which is exactly what i liked, and being there for a weekend the only time we spent was 8 hours sleeping in the room. i'm sure you'd get a better deal with priceline but even full rate is cheap. i've stayed in south kihei for the amount i spent on maui lu and the south kihei hotel was a third the size.

Nice for the price.
By ShiftyG, 1/8/09
Stayed there in 2002. When we first arrived to our room was extremely dissapointed as it was a garden view room. The room smelled, old a/c unit, dirty carpet, horrible view. So we upgraded to the ocean side and had a great time. Steps from your own private beach, sliding glass door to patio with ocean view, very quiet and secluded, perfect for what me and my fiance were looking for.

DIRTY UNKEPT
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/10/07
Just got back from Maui, couldn't stay the night at this place...very dirty, unkept, furniture falling apart...very disappointed. My dog stayed in a cleaner place than this. Not recommended, knew there was something wrong...you get what you pay for....

dump
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/16/07
I liked that we got a room right on the ocean. (which, of course, was extra). However, the facility itself has seen better days. It is very dated and some things are in dis-repair. Bathroom in poor condition, huge cock roach was laying on its back there in the morning, covered in red ants. It was non smoking. Parking lot was hard to get into and out of. I would not stay there again. You can find better deals and cleaner, more modern places for your vacation stay.

Needs TLC
By Elfstone, 3/28/07
This is a 3 story building with an elevator on only one side of an "H" configuration. I dod not like lugging heavy suitcases down the long corridor ion the non-elevator side. There are also cottages around the grounds. You walk to a very narrow, but uncrowded, beach. I never saw the "beach" building mentioned in reviews. When we saw the worn out wooden stairs I was shocked, but the mountain view and the grounds are very nice. The ownership is 3 years old but apparently lacks the resources to freshen things up. It was still very clean. We had a balcony (lanai) overlooking the mountains. Furniture was comfy. Our room was HUGE but had no microwave. Info from the staff was nonexistent. We were handed a brochure, and told restaurants were donw the road. There was some kind of church service in the evening, but we were given no explanation. I would have liked to attend. It reminded me of an old church camp that had run out of money. One entire building seemed closed and off limits. There was no snack bar and no food machines. The soda machines were mostly empty.

Looking forward to Returning
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/18/07
We stayed there October 2006. The room was large 2 full sized beds, small refrig, great for cheap meals. Only microwave is in lobby as well as coffee maker. But if you stop at Walmart after the airport, buy a coffee pot/microwave, keep receipt and return it when you leave (rent free!) We go on a budget, as you can see. Save big money for snorkling/evening 5 star dining. Hardly ever in room, so didn't mind the slight inconveniences. Room was clean, average, balcony overlooked cabins in back. So what! I didn't have to sit out there, matter of fact, only used the balcony to hang towels/swimsuits on to dry overnight. AC worked! Shower was always hot! Clean towels and newspaper every morning! In Hawaii, it's laied back! LOL No worries man! If you want luxury, go elsewhere! If you want economy, clean and convenient, stay here! Pool is big, shaped like Maui, and relaxing, has many lounge chairs, never have to wait for a chair or put towel on the floor! You can walk across the street to secluded coves, very nice!!! But not for kids, no lifeguard! But big beaches with lifeguards only 2 miles down the road for families. Your only minutes away from resturants. Look for small eateries, usually locals doing home made cooking .. yummie and inexpensive for day eating. Go to the fancy 5-star for evening dining! I would always go in October, save big money and in Maui for Halloween is like Mardi-Grau! Parties everywhere, go in costume and get in free!
