Makena Surf - Destination Resorts Hawaii, Kihei

I was so excited to go to maui as i had gone when i was younger and had long waited to return to the waters filled with whales. I loved the view the beaches, pools and friendly staff. There wasn't a thing i didn't like about it, which is why my mom has booked another trip for this coming year. This time we will bring along our great uncle and aunt for a week. As i love the water I was swimming ALOT, and this included snorkeling which is made easy because right arounf the corner of the beach is a great snorkel area. When we first got there we were going to plan a snorkel trip someone told use not to because you would end up paying alot of money to be dropped off at your hotel beach!! Anyway i would tell anyone that this a great hotel. And the best part about the condo's is they have alot of space for those who have annoying brothers like i do.

We have been coming to Maui for 17 years. Until we purchased, we stayed in the same unit (F-103) every year. The views are fantastic, the facilities are great, the gardens are lush and the beach is one of the best on the island. Units (and the care of those units) differ. Search the Internet for deals renting directly from the owner and make sure there are pictures. Going through one of the major resort companies that take 40% of the rental may not get you the best unit or the best price. Last time we were there to stay was December 05, but we actually go to the beach there quite often (all beaches in Hawaii are public). We also have friends that own a unit there now.

When you first enter the grounds the lush folliage makes you think you are in a tropical garden. Our unit F-301 Makena Surf had heavenly views of both the ocean and shoreline. Boats came and went right out our lanui, viewing turtles and whales!! The unit was wonderful, boasting 3 bedrooms 3 baths( one with a whirlpool) and a excellent layout. The stall was aways there to make our stay pleasant. A most stay when on Maui!!!

The Makena Surf condos are absolutley goregeous and we would definitely return there for our next visit to Maui. Conveniently located near Big and Little beaches, the condo complex was extremely protected (by a gated card access entry) and extremely quiet. There were very few kids running around screaming all the time unlike other places we've stayed and the view of the sunset was unmatchable. The unit that we stayed in was very tastefully decorated in whites with granite countertops and just about every amenity you can think of. The wireless broadband access worked flawlessly and the only complaint that I can think of is that the maids tend to knock at the door rather early. The lanai was extremely spacious and private and no one can see into your unit (2nd floor and up) from the little used greenway in front. I would heartily recommend the Makena Surf if its price meets your budget.

The beauty of the place is what you can't escape. The grounds are the most plush and wonderful I've seen in my 30+ years on the Island. Flowers seem to have been intricately selected for all hours of the day and night. The night jasmine was a nice surprise. The beaches are as lovely as any on the island yet they lack those delightful crowds of tourists. You have to endure your solitude as the sun sets directly in front of you every night. Can one of those Kahunas come show me how to blow in this shell? You can pay to drive to Keihi to then travel by boat to Turtle Town for some of the best snokeling... or you can notice that this is just off shore of the Makena Surf and hop in the water to enjoy. The rooms seem to be kept up by a set of beneficent tycoons. Museum quality art litters the place. Why would they leave their valuables for us to enjoy? How strange... and wonderful

We just got back from staying at the Makena Surf for a week. The location of these high-end condos was stunning - beautiful views, gorgoeous beach, overall good service. However, I must say that I think that the price is a bit steep, especially since there is no guarentee of what condo you will get, how it will be decorated, and what condition it will be in. The condos are individually owned and decorated by the owners. Our condo was in a prime ocean front location, so the view was spectacular; however, the condo was not as spacious as we had hoped, and its decor was average at best. There were also problems with the unit, such as knobs falling off appliances and lights burning out or flickering. It did not appear to be maintained to the extent that the rental price calls for. To be fair, I must also say that I saw another condo while I was there, and it was much more spacious and nicely decorated (with a rental price that was less than our's, since the view was not quite as nice, but still lovely). However, we loved the beach, where the condos are located. Unlike some of the beaches on the other side of the island, it was relatively private - not crowded at all. It was perfect for swimming and boogie boarding, and fine for snorkling. The grounds of the condo complex were also lush and gorgeous. In fact, the overall location made it all worth it!
