Great value for the money'
By E.VC, 1/31/10
Location was selected because I did not want to stay in touristy Kailua-Kona. I highly suggest a rental car to enjoy your stay. Upon arrival we were upgraded to an Ocean Front room and staff was friendly and attentive. The room was large and the bedding was clean and comfortable. Views of the ocean exceeded our expectations. Great value for the money. The restaurant Sunday brunch was exceptional. Another must is having cocktails before sunset at the bar located on the bottom floor. The maids were more than happy to give extra soap, shampoo and clean towels for our day excursions. We will be back soon!

If I knew then what I know now
By Eat'n Spam Dan, 1/5/09
I had never been to the Big Island before and this trip was sure a learning experience. One of the things I did not know about the big island is it's lack of sandy beaches; luckily this hotel is extremely close to one of the larger beaches in the Kona area. This is a very nice looking hotel on the outside, but what I found inside was shameful. We paid for a room with a ocean view, and what we got was a view of the loading dock and dumpster area with the ocean in the background, but wait there's more the room was extremely dated and I don't mean in a cool retro way; the bathroom was small and had a horrible mold problem. We were not moved and I'm guessing the other rooms were worse since the parking lot wasn't very full. This place could be much much better.

The hotel was okay...
By Lala, 6/29/08
My husband and I stayed here for a few days. The hotel lobby is nice and you can get free internet access here and see sea life swimming by from the restaurant balcony. Our room seemed old. The bathroom was cleaned but seemed dirty- I wouldn't shower there without slippers. We didn't even bother swimming in the hotel pool- instead we opted to swim at the near by Sheraton pool. If I ever visit Kona again- I probably wouldn't stay here.

Good hotel with a great location.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/26/08
My wife and I spent four days here on our honeymoon. The hotel was nice and clean. We spent a lot of time exploring the island so the location was perfect.

Good while it lasted!
By Heatherly, 10/15/07
The only thing we didn't like was that the restaurant/bars closed so early. Also the pool. Adults need to have a time to themselves after 9:00PM. We were always the last couple to leave each area and it wasn't even late. We then had to go to town to try to find drinks and late night food. Everything else was great. We'll probably never be able to afford the property after the remodel so were happy we experience it this summer.

I prefer it over the Waikoloa Hilton
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/8/07
I love the Outrigger because the grounds are absolutely beautiful. It really felt sacred there to me. The hotel itself has an open lanai resteraunt and the bar extends over a pristine lagoon. They took care to work the design of the building into the natural surroundings. With our deal, the breakfast buffet was free every morning, all in all it was a great value. The rooms (carpet and bathroom) are in need of a remodel but the bed was comfortable and we had a very nice view. We spent most of our time outside so we were satisfied. I prefer the Outrigger Keauhou over the over-the-top Waikoloa Hilton for instance, strictly for it's laid back true Aloha feeling.

We Couldn't Wait to Leave!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/22/07
May 12-18th 2007. Upon arrival, the hotel upgraded us to a suite. #605.The view was great. The room had old stained carpets that felt terrible to walk on. Small bathroom w/shower that had mold, rust, peeling paint. Mildew on carpet where shower leaked. Not so good mattress. Small rusted refrigerator. Front desk moved us to a "better" room - #712. Very nice view of ocean and grounds. Bathroom a bit better. Still old. Didn't notice mold but you could smell it. Paint peeling on ceiling. Carpet same condition as first room. While dining, we had to look directly through the people at the pool to see the ocean since the two were side-by-side. Scary elevators! Several of us were waiting for the cables to snap. The grounds are beautiful and the open air lobby with plenty of seating was very nice. We were told the hotel would be updated this fall. Odd, last year they told our friends they were updating that fall. We also had our breakfast coupons and hotel charge card removed from our room. Front desk was not the least concerned, just brushed us off.

Perfect experience, a surprise
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/14/07
We were ready to have a ''ok'' hotel, decent, but not great; it finally was such an outstanding, charming, perfect experience, was the best base from which we have discovered that great island. If they tell you you might see turtles...it's because you will, wonderful.

I miss it so much!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/9/07
I stayed here a couple summers ago. It was the best experience of my life. The bay is great for snorkeling. Overall, the best hotel on the kona coast.

Great ocean view, wonderful location, helpful staff, rooms could be cleaner (soiled carpet, yuck!). Overall: very nice place to stay if you don't have more $$ to spend.
