Keauhou Beach Resort, Kailua Kona

We stayed at the Outrigger Keauhuo in June 2005. Our room was not in great condition. It was clean, but they did not vacuum while we were there. It was a disappointment because of the cost of the room. Their remodeled lobby and restaurant area were fabulous, but the staff was not very helpful, until a local put in a good word for us. After that the service was great. It matters who you know. I would not stay at the Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort at Kailua Kona again unless I was on the run and wanted a place to hide.

The Outrigger Keauhou at Kailua Kona has wonderful views. The staff is friendly and very helpful. They go out of their way to help you. The snorkeling is excellent. You are close to everything but far enough away from Kona to be relaxed. It is beautiful.

Our family just returned on June 6th and loved the view! The hotel is located on a tide pool where the Hawaiian Sea Turtles can be watched and enjoyed. The outside seating was amazing while eating a great breakfast. We can't wait to go back! (The rooms could be updated....but the views were incredible.) Great hotel for the price.

We had asked for a garden view and the room we got was right over a roof, so we asked to change rooms and they gave us an ocean view room at no extra charge. What a spectacular view! And the staff was very friendly and very helpful. The snorkeling place right next to the hotel is AWESOME! The room was very clean. Sometimes parking was a hassle when we came back from being out for the day, but then the valets will take care of it for you. I would recommend this hotel to everyone!

One of this hotel�s main assets is its location. It is situated right on the shore, adjacent to one of the most beautiful beaches on Kona. Excellent swimming and snorkeling are only steps away. The lounge area extends out over the tide-pools. Visitors can enjoy cocktails at sunset while observing the many basking sea turtles and colorful tropical fish directly below. The hotel provides live Hawaiian music and entertainment nightly 6-9pm. The lobby is open air, with beautiful large Hawaiian flower displays. Smiling staff members greeting all visitors. The concierge has numerous opportunities for adventure at the ready. While not elegantly appointed, my room was certainly adequate. The furniture was rattan with tropical print fabric cushions, all in good repair. The bed and pillows were comfortable and free of lumps. The bathroom was large, and numerous thick towels were provided. The partial ocean view room still gives a very nice water view!! I have enjoyed both stays immensely. This is the only place my husband and I will book when we go to Kona.

Lots of Equipment needs replaceing since all were out of service. Poor food quality & food service. They acted like a four start hotel when they were only doing two star service. Good location on the beach.

nice location with great views and at night about the only thing you hear is the surf. quality snorkeling right next door at the public beach.

The resteraunt is open air and the food is great. You want to make it a point to eat the morning breakfast. We have stayed there twice and will go back again. It not so upscale you feel out of place. Just has a good feel to it. A public beach is adjacent to the hotel and you can enjoy it as well. The Garden side of the hotel has huge trees and the birds will sing you to sleep and wake you up the next day if you leave you balcony door open.

my wife, 2 daughters and their boyfriends stayed here for 5 nights in March 2004. Wonderfull hospitality. Great location with snorkeling beach right next door. Had an ocean view room, which means exactly what it says. Rooms were very clean and well maintained. Staff very friendly and helpfull. Morning breakfast buffet was execellent. As we had a rental van, did not eat lunches or evening meals at hotel. Lots of great places to eat just up Ali'i Drive in town. Next time we are on the Big Island, this will the place we stay. Have recommended it to many friends since we were there.

We stayed here in 2002. Our room was very large compared to hotels in Honolulu, and our walk-out balcony was massive. We loved eating papaya and ahi poke and watching the birds while we enjoyed the ocean breeze. We'll upgrade to ocean view next time, but we're not complaining, not a bad view from any room. Our room overlooked the tennis courts and tidepools. Every day the sunrise was awesome and we could see turtles in the tidepools. Don't forget to enjoy the 'hammock for two' after a few tropical drinks at the open air bar that juts out over the tidepools -- fish everywhere, just peek over the railing with drink in one hand and your love interest in the other. The location is perfect for exploring the western Hawaii coast. A short drive to the Place of Refuge; not too far to the petroglyphs in the north, and the drive to the volcano park was not bad. Our concierge recommended a snorkeling/whale watch Sea Quest trip -- the best! We loved driving a few minutes on the Kam hwy to a mall near the Safeway store where a little Korean barbeque served plate lunches and dinners -- ate like the locals, wow! We ate there almost every day -- a real value!! Again, a great place with a great staff and the location is beautiful for exploring or staying put and enjoying.
