do not stay at this hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/29/11
This establishment was truly unprofessional and unfair. I was making reservations to stay at this hotel, for the death of a familt member. A delay in my flight resulted in the cancellation of this hotel stay. The reservations clerk charged me a whole nights stay plus a fee for the cancellation. Might i add this reservation and cancellation was all done within an two hour period. Now i am out a hundred and seven dollars from this stupid hotel! What a way to grieve my dead family member huh?

great view from room & such nice hotel staff :)
By Keonith, 3/1/11
I liked everything!!! The room was soooo amazing and had such a wonderful view of Diamond Head. All of the hotel staff were so nice to me and my friend, especially the front desk manager Paul. We will definitely be staying there again in the very near future!!!

Thieves and is DIRTY
By Vancouver-Grizz, 6/11/09
Stayed at this hotel and was fine until the second last night. During my trip I had one of my suitcase out as I put my digital camera, camcorder, cell phone and portable dvd player in it with a luggage lock. My second last day my suitcase went missing. We were staying on the 7th floor and there was no way anyone would of climbed in to the room. And so happens the only thing I was missing was my suit case with the lock on it. All our other bags was untouched. Contacted the front desk and they gave me the procedure which was just wait till someone comes up and take alook. I waited about 2 hours and nobody came up so I decided to call the cops myself. Cops came into the room and dusted for prints and a officer said this was the 3rd time it has happened in 1 week to his partner. I am convinced that the maid took it or tipped someone off. Management apology was non-existant and only chalked it up to bad luck. Was given the run around from staff to management to figure out what they can do for me which was nothing. Wasted a whole day dealing with this and basically came out of this as the victim. I also took home some bed bugs with me back home and had numerous bites on my back and legs.

OKAY stay - Got what I paid for!
By FlyinFoxymama, 8/27/08
We didn't need a 5 star hotel for just one night so this was the best deal i can find for the price i paid. We only stayed for one night when we flew in to Honolulu on thurs (aug 14) before catching our flight to Kauai the next day - late afternoon. The hotel is in the midst of renovations and so we could not even open up the sliding door for the balcony. We had a partial view of the ocean and mostly high-rise buildings. The beds were not very comfortable and the room can definitely use a little more up to date furnishings. The room was relatively clean - again we were only there for one night and so we really just needed a place to crash and get cleaned up. There was a small kitchenette area with microwave and fridge and the bathroom was very tiny. The location was good though, just minutes away from waikik beach/strip and there is a nearby mini-mart and starbucks just around the corner from the hotel.

Aloha Spirit!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/26/08
I've been to the Island Colony many times. I've met the General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Chief of Security and staff, Front Desk staff, Executive Housekeeper and staff, and even the AOAO staff plus many other employees.I've read some of the reviews listed and find the negative reviews to be very untrue and very hard to believe. To summarize my continued experience here, I will continue to return to this property anytime, even over 5 Diamond or 5 Star resorts. The staff is very friendly and define the meaning of the "Aloha Spirit". Yes, it is an older type of property if you would consider it that, however, I'd return to this property based on the Awesome customer service by all the different departments and the feeling that the staff gives, a feeling of family. I've learned the word "Ohana" here in Hawaii and these individuals at the Island Colony define this word as well. I would definitely recommend this property for reasons that words cannot describe.

I have read other reviews of this hotel and disagree with some of the comments. I sayed at the Aqua Island Colony In Fenruary 2008. I did not see any bugs! It was somewhat clean. The bathrooms could have been cleaner. I noticed the maid only made the bed and replaced the towels each day. The bathroom was not cleaned everyday. I found that to be unsatisfactory. The Hotel is in need of an update, it is really outdated. The bathrooms need to be redone and the rooms need new furniture. The balcony's where very large and had a great view! With little updating and the maid cleaning the entire room each day this could be a terrific hotel!

Jan 22 2008

I'd not recommend this hotel as most of the building is residential, old, and dirty. The first room we were in was infested with roaches. I called the front desk and was told that the islands cause there to be a lot of bugs...he then offered me a can of Raid. I went down to the can of Raid, then spent the next several hours cleaning the room. I called my travel agent early the next morning and we were given another room. It was cleaner and no bugs. But after that impression I never felt quite right about our stay. Spend the extra money for a higher quaility hotel.

Worst experience ever!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/31/07
Outside of having a good location, we found this hotel to be dirty and infested with bed bugs. Upon leaving this hotel my girl friend and I had over 30 bites on us, a piece. The service was also a bit disappointing, it wasn't bad, but not very welcoming and friendly. My advice would be to pay a little extra and stay somewhere else!!
