Description

Before Lanai's owners decided to turn it into a charming getaway with big tourist appeal, this was a quiet, locals-only sort of place. Pineapples were the main industry, and the biggest hotel in town was this 11-room place, which Mr. James Dole (yes, as in Dole Pineapples) built to accommodate his guests. The hotel manages to hold its own against the two new resorts because of its charm, history and local feeling. Its low prices only add to the appeal. Rooms are simply furnished with plantation style accessories; televisions are found only in the cottages.

go back to the main land
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/28/08
I am sorry but my wife and i just returned from our vacation and have to tell you about Lanai city grill, located in hotel lanai. the new new owner"Mike Charles" is stiff, rude and just not a nice person. During our trip we were told a new chef had taken over and was doing a great job....hmm I don't know about that. She is some kind of celebrity on maui but clearly doesn't spend any time in Lanai. The food was lacking in presentation and taste. We heard they are having a hard time keeping a chef on premiss not hard to believe with an owner like "Mike". Sorry but I wouldn't eat there again if you paid me.

Hawaii's Best Kept Secret
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/14/06
If your interested in fresh air, no traffic, beautiful scenery, & friendly people. Lana'i is the perfect place for you to visit. Staying at Hotel Lanai was so convenient, it's located right above the town square, were the grocery stores, local restaurant's, ATM, and a few gift shops are. It's smoke free & continental breakfast is included. The staff is very helpful & friendly. Located in the hotel is Henry Clay's Rotisserie, we've been to most of the restaurant's offered on Lana'i, but nothing comes close to this restaurant, best food on the island. Love the rotisserie chicken!! We'll be back!!

Hidden Treasure
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/13/06
Lanai is a great place to ejoy all types of outdoor activity: golf, hiking, sporting clay's, diving, snorkling, fishing, hunting, off roading, and etc. Of course, one could just lay around at the beautiful beach or take a 4x4 trip around the island to "private" beaches. The best thing about Hotel Lanai is that for the difference cost, one could enjoy most of the activities that have a charge. However, if one desires luxury than the Four seasons is the place to be. We stayed at both. We discovered that at Hotel Lanai one could use the 9 course plublic golf course for free( there is a donation box) and play tennis, basket ball and swim in the public lap pool, all for free. The hotel staff is very accomadating about loaning out gear including snorkling gera for the beach. We will return!

Comfortable and Local
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/8/04
Hotel Lana`i is centered in Lana`i City, near the edge of Dole Park and the center of this small town. If you want to have breakfast with the locals at Blue Ginger Cafe, walk along Dole Park, have a drink on your patio and watch the sunset, this is the place for you. In short, Hotel Lana`i is relaxed, friendly, and local. While Hotel Lana`i features a very fine restaurant, it is not like the other two major hotels on the island in many other ways. The other hotels on the island are upscale resorts. Hotel Lana`i has no swimming pools, no golf, no horseback riding. Instead, Hotel Lana'i is more like staying at a comfortable old friend's house. We love it!
