Had to Call the Police Because of the Night Clerk

I was so excited to stay at the Planters Inn because of all of the positive reviews. They were all spot on when we arrived - nice rooms, great wine and cheese social hour, perfect location. Our problems began when we arrived back at the hotel late one evening. Walking up to the front door, we passed a man and a woman kissing out on the street. She seemed to be struggling, and he was wearing torn black shorts and a dirty black tank top, so we asked if she was okay, and she assured us she was. So, we headed inside the inn. Our friends who were staying with us, and whom had to make a trip to the emergency room, had booth of our keys, so we headed to the front desk to get our key. Imagine our surprise when there was no one at the front desk, and then the same girl who was outside kissing the scary man came inside the inn. To make it worse, the guy followed her inside as well. We had to tell her our room number to get a key, and they scary guy heard what room we were in. To make it worse, the guy started hopping all over the lobby making weird faces and talking to us in a rambling way. We did not feel comfortable going to our room at that point and asked the clerk to ask the man to leave or we were going to call the police. She refused and and acted like she had no idea what we were talking about - even though there is a security camera that had everything on tape - including her walking in from the outside, with the scary guy coming inside as well. The clerk was incredibly rude - and we did end up having to call the police. Of course by that time, the guy had left the inn completely. I don't know what kind of people they allow to work at that hotel, but as an overnight guest, I would not feel comfortable after witnessing what I did. I have yet to talk to the manager about the situation but I can say this - we got in quite late that night, otherwise we would have never known that the front desk was left unmanned meaning anyone could have walked in, got on the elevator and come up to the floors and done whatever they wanted too. That is an incredibly scary prospect, especially considering that Savannah isn't always the safest place. If you stay here, make sure to bolt your doors.
