TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE-STAY AWAY!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/11
From checking in to checking out it was HORRIBLE! The only nice thing I can say about the place is location. We were in 3 different rooms due to TVs not working, toilets leaking all over the floor and best of all, we paid in advance for a room with a king size bed but when we got there we had to pay $20.00 extra a night to get that. Forget the "nice breakfast" it never happened, we were there at different times and they were always out of everything. And did I mention they CHARGE you $10.00 every night to park in their garage? Stay away!!!

Will Stay Here From Now On
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/24/11
I have read some disparaging comments about this property but did not have the same experiences at all. Check in was great and staff was ALWAYS FRIENDLY and HELPFUL. The rooms were not as large as some places but fit 2 queen beds a chest, desk and chair comfortably. My gosh how much room do you need to sleep? The rooms were beutiful, comfortable and always clean as was everyplace I went in the hotel. The continental breakfast was great although I feel the time peeling all the hard-boiled eggs could have been better used cracking the eggs and scrambling them instead. We were sooooo very pleased with this establishment and its location that we plan to always stay there from now on. We have always stayed at 'The President's Quarters' but feel we got as much if not more (and a great and convenient location) for our money !!!! William E Rauh Florence SC

A strategically placed \"gem\"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/26/10
I liked the location of the hotel, and the fact that the entire staff was quite accommodating, i.e., Carl who assisted us with our luggage; Danielle and Dorian at the front desk; Linda at the concierge desk. The room was never made until after 3:00 p.m. each day, which seems quite late. Vending machines on first floor were never replenished during the 4 days we were there, however, the good outweighed the few negatives greatly. Would definitely stay again.

Hotel great BEWARE on check out.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/10/10
The hotel was very nice and clean. We enjoyed it, but on check out. I paid cash and ask that nothing be charged to my credit card .I was asked to make sure the balence was 0 and sign the checkout slip, I did just that and thought things were fine UNTIL I left and took another look at my receipt it said balence charged to my credit card. Thank god, I seen it before the drive home 350 miles away. I went back to the hotel and ask for a cash receipt and it be taken off my cc. The clerk was very nervous even though I was very nice about. So, with that said, I think she had all intentions of pocketing the cash I paid for the room. That's why she had me sign it and make sure it had a o bal. I would've had no proof of giving her cash. BE CAREFUL ON CHECK OUT. Look at your receipt before you leave or you may be paying for this room twice.

Had a GREAT experience.
By Derreck, 4/26/10
We stopped in Savanah while coming home from FL with a large pickup and a trailer. When we called for reservations the lady said parking's no problem. When we arrived there was NO place to park. As we began driving away my wife called to cancel and the manager asked us to come back and she'd be outside. I made a wrong turn and missed a street somewhere. It took 20 minutes to get back and when we pulled in, there she was! STILL waiting for us, directing us into the lane by the parking garage, and reassured us that she'd have security check it throughout the night. BTW, this was 8am, 7 or 8 hours before our actual check in. She was very gracious to let us park there and use facilities to clean up before spending a GREAT day touring the historic distric, which this hotel is dead in the middle of. Our very large, clean and comfortable room ($165) was on floor 16 and looked out to the river. It was awesome. Housekeeping only left one towel in the room and when we called down, housekeeping was there with towels, apologizing, in about less than a minute. Any hotel in the country can be perfect or horrible, based on 1 single person behind the desk and how well the AC unit happens to work. Maybe we just got lucky, but our service (and AC) was GREAT. Room, and the hotel overall, were BEAUTIFUL and clean. And within 1 block is River St., the old market district, and right across the street is 5 guys burgers, which is GREAT at 1am, after "too much fun" on River Street!!!! I can not WAIT to go back to Savannah, and we'll be for sure making reservations for the Inn at Ellis Square. Good luck with your stay!! Oh, and btw, if you're staying only for a day or 2, you won't want to bother with hotel breakfast, when there's a handful of outdoor garden markets in the old market district that are THE perfect, little quintessential pictresque places to have breakfast. So of course the breakfast is just ok, but WHO cares!?!

Love this place
By Tiffany, 7/10/09
we went on this trip with our 2 kids (7&8) it had a blast we had only planned to only stay one night once we arrived and seen what a wonderful property this was at such a great price we booked another night the staff was amazing and very helpful, the room was great, they had a pool which is hard to find in this area even though it is close to street still was able to lay and relax poolside while kids played in pool, the location of property was excelent could see river from room and walk less than a block to be right on riverstreet and you are within walking distance to everything. my family and i thoroughly enjoyed the stay here and cant wait to go back. the breakfast the hotel served was very good and saved lots of money for us as well. great place for family, romantic getaway or girls weeked! cant wait to do it again!

A little disapointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/6/09
The place was nice enough, but we had a real problem with out room and the Air Conditioning. They said they would have someone look at it,but never did. We roasted the entire time. I told the front desk at check out and she didn't even offer an apolology. You pay $9 a day for parking, but there were cars parked all over the place,up and down the park garage ramp and side walks. The nicest part was the concierge (Jane) really nice and helpful.

Never again.......
By gary sheets, 4/15/09
We were really looking forward to our stay at Ellis Inn. But, upon arrival the front desk clerk was very smug and rude. We had paid $156.00 in advance for the room and told at that time that the price include breakfast for two. To our suprise the breakfast was the continental bar not a sit down restuarant as we were led to believe. Furthermore, we were not told at the time of booking that there was a $9.00 fee for parking. As to the room itself, we booked a non-smoking king that turned out to be very cramped. No soap or shampoo was in the bathroom. When we expressed our disatisfaction a "I don't really care" attitude was all we got. In conclusion, the staff was very smug and rude non caring about their guest, the room was small and cramped, the staff did not disclose fully the detials of the package, I personally was extremely disappointed and will NEVER stay at this facility again. I am sure any other hotel in the area would be betther then the Inn at Ellis Square

Will Not Stay There Again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/27/09
The Location was great--but pretty much everything else was bad. The exterior of this hotel is beautiful but the interior has been completely gutted and is tacky, dated and ugly. The front desk employees were very rude--and I have never ever (not even at a Motel 6) been charged up front for a stay on my cc. I wanted to pay cash when checking out, but they placed a hold on my cc for the entire amount anyway--we're not paying by the hour here are we? My room was supposed to be non-smoking as is the entire hotel--it was not. It stunk of cheap menthol cigarettes terribly. Additionally, my ac unit did not work properly and so it was hot and could not help to filter our the stinky air. Plus I had to keep in running all night just to maintain a decent temperature (the windows do not open) and it kept waking me up throughout the night bc it was so loud. The beds were awfully hard and felt older than the hills. The complimentary breakfast was not great--sweets/pastries, breads, cheap fruit cocktail, and cheap bagels and coffee--plus a crazy man who worked there filling the coffee. This hotel seemed dated and dirty, the staff was rude and my room was very sub-par--do not stay here unless you plan to be drunk every night and/or you don't care about value for your money. (btw who cares about a flat screen tv, that is not why you travel is it?)
