Mixed Feelings
After a two-night stay at this hotel, I still have mixed feelings about it - but not so much as to give it an "average" rating of 3 stars. Two stars suits it better. The staff is inattentive - what staff there is. We encountered security as we drove onto the property the first day and never saw them again. There was usually only one person at the front desk; repeated attempts to call the front desk were eventually successful, but only persistence paid off. Staff never greated guests; they actually seemed to avoid any encounters of any kind, even simply passing you in the hall.
The first day, the bathrooms by the pool were vile. The second day, the women's bathroom was inoperable (which is probably just as well, given the condition the previous day). There's plenty of towels, but bring you're own. There's are warm and skimpy.
For a waterfront hotel, the rooms were competent. They do need a complete renovation, however. The sofa sank towards the front of the piece. The mattress was lumpy. The chairs were passable. But the room was clean - it just didn't get made up until after 4:00 PM.
What was most disappointing was the perception of the waterfront created on the property's website versus what is actually available. There is no access to the bay from the hotel, although it must have gone through considerable expense to create the beach. The pool is small, noisy, crowded, and over-chlorinated.
The property is probably a good deal for a family. The pool is packed with kids, but most parents did a fine job policing the horseplay. On the other hand, if you're a couple looking for a quiet place near the water for some time to rest and rejuvenate - this ain't it. I suspect - but don't know - that there are much better choices for you.
I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it enough to stay their again. The Best Western down the street looked much nicer and probably had a more attentive and customer-focused staff.
