Runway? Should be called Run Away!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/16/08
This place was terrifying! Most of the reviews sum things up pretty well, and I am amazed that some people slept in those beds even though they felt uncomfortable about it.
The moment we walked into our room I knew we would be turning around and leaving. It smelled like I stuck my face deep into a kitty litter box. We hadn't made arrangements for a place to sleep during an extra night in Miami while we were travelling, so we looked at the board of hotels at the airport and found this one. The middle price range places didn't have any openings, leaving the way too expensive places and the runway inn. My mind kept reading the sign as "Runaway Inn" and I didn't realize it was Runway until we got there. I think my brain was trying to tell me something... the true name of that place should be Runaway!
Now, I will touch on the four topics Yahoo asked me to rate above.
Service: When I asked for a refund, I tried to be polite. The man at the counter just got angry that I didn't want to stay there and pointed at the no refunds sign. I told him we'd barely checked in an hour ago and haven't even been in the room (we went down the street for lunch after dropping off our bags in the room. My wife was worried things would be stollen from our bags while we were out. First thing she did when we got our bags before leaving was make sure everything was there. It was... at this point. She didn't feel safe staying there, and the door certainly wasn't secure.) Reluctantly, he gave us our refund. We'll be keeping an eye on our credit card though and make sure no strange charges show up.
Location: It's a pretty dirty part of town, and the surrounding buildings are restarants I wouldn't think of eating at or crummy alcohol stores. One review mentioned seeing a hooker outside while moving his car... that doesn't suprize me, although I didn't see any hookers myself. I didn't hang around long enough.
Cleanliness: First lets talk about everywhere but the room. The lobby doesn't quite look like a hotel lobby, and gives you the impression that the area is shared by other businesses or something. The hallway was out of a scary movie with it's dim lights and dirty, vinyl floor. The room numbers were just nailed to the door, not a little plaque like at most hotels on the wall. Everything added together to give you that dirty, horror movie, 'get out of here' feeling. The room was just as filthy, or worse. There were no lamps or warm incondescent lights like people are used to in home-type settings. Instead, lighting was provided by a cheap flourescent light on the ceiling, and in the bathroom it took a good minute of flickering for the light to finally come on. We were only brave enough to peek into the bathroom, and I honestly opened the closet just to see if that's where the roaches were hidding. A pattern of cigerette burns decorated the comforter, and I couldn't even imagine half of the microscopic bugs and parisites that must have been living in that matress. I was not going to risk getting some strange disease and a skin rash from sleeping in that bed.
Value: I wouldn't stay there for free, and even if I was offered money to stay there... I don't need the extra cash that bad. Please, even if you're short on money and trying to find a low low price, don't stay here. I don't care how much money you'll save, you will honestly regret it.
Final Thoughts: If you are planning for a place to stay and even give a moment's thought about this place, stop right now! Run away! Spend a little more money at a Holiday Inn or something, I would be seriously concerned for your health if I hear you chose the Runway Inn instead. If it happens to you like it did me, and you accidentally end up there, I'm very sorry. If they refused to refund you when you left, call your credit card company and contest the charge, they will take care of you. Whatever you do, just don't sleep there.
