Better than some reviews!
Presently surprised compared to some reviews I read before I went.
Reviews I had read were either very good or quite bad, some stuff I read was unhelpful staff, noisy A/C and helicopter and highway noise, so taking these;
Staff-didn't have that much contact with them, but they seemed ok
A/C-The air con was certainly no more noisy that any other hotel with it, we didn't see the problem.
Helicopter noise-Yes there is a helicopter place next door, this is only the daytime so on the odd day you may be by the pool (I suspect like us most people will be out at the parks etc) you might hear a helicopter taking off every 10-15 minutes, but I didn't see the problem!
Highway noise-This could be a real problem, but we were OK being on block A
There are many hotel blocks, 5 I think in all avoid B,C (and some D) For rooms facing the highway, but don't think if you are in them you will have a problem with noise, you could be in these are face the pool. I guess there is very little you can do before getting there in any case, just beware if could be an issue.
Generally speaking the hotel was good-Rooms cleaned and beds made every day (remember to leave $1 tip for maid each day) Hotel is not particularly big on facilities, apart from the reception all there is a Universal ticket counter, beware they will try and sell you everything! Apart from that there is a VERY expensive bar, restaurant and a small but quite but well stocked shop which sells quite a lot snacks along with as like everywhere hundreds of different drinks. Apart from that there are three small pools none of which have any of their own facilities. The hotel is not 'top' class but compares with other 'motel’ chains I have used in the stares before (MoJo, Days Inn Etc) Do not think the 'Plaza' means it is better than other hotels that just reflects the area it is in. The rooms do have a good range of TV channels, a hairdryer along with a fridge (pity it wasn't a fridge freezer for ice creams etc) and a microwave
TIP; Being from the UK, we expected for there to be a nice 'bar' with a big outdoor area maybe one by a pool, but there no such thing, the bar is an indoor one only which isn't particularly suited to families and as I said very expensive. For late evening drinks we took our own drinks from our hotel fridge and drank them in what appeared to be the only communal area buy the shop, you can buy drinks from the bar and drink them here, there are tables and chairs but it was just quite remote no facilities.
Luckily there are a couple of bars in the very handy (right opposite)
http://www.pointeorlando.com/ has quite a few places, 3-4 bars plus same again eating places. I will review these separately, but whatever else you do in the evening makes sure one night (we did it twice) you have to do the ‘Outta Control Magic Dinner show’ right opposite the hotel at Wonderworks, apart from there excellent magic show with audience participation this is unbelievable value, being $24.95 plus tax (look out for he hundreds of different vouchers available which basically give you a discount to cancel out the tax) for this you get, on top of the bril show as much pizza as you want (it really is endless!) plus salad and popcorn and as much bud, wince or soft drinks (soda) you can easily drink 5-6 buds getting your money back!
