** DO stay here if: you want a great deal, want easy access to shopping/downtown/metrorail/buses/Bayside/cruises, are not traveling by car, don't mind a little discomfort, and just need a place to crash or put your luggage. ** DON'T stay here if: you want to spend most of your time in the hotel room, are traveling with individuals who are highly allergenic, or can't do without luxury. --- Our experience (Dec. 2009): We had a cruise booked for the day following our arrival in Miami. We just needed a place to put our luggage while we went around town and a place to sleep for the night. This hotel provides just that. Check in, dump your belongings, visit the Bayside Marketplace, go around the city, come back only to sleep, and check out for the cruise the following morning. The lobby has free wireless internet. Travelers just like you often hang out in the lobby with their laptops, so the place doesn't feel terribly poor or shady. Rooms that face the port have a fabulous view, but you have to be lucky to get one of those. Our AC worked fine, though it is a little tricky to adjust it. No cups in the room and no ice machines. However, there's a CVS just 10 yards away for buying whatever snacks and items you need. If you need food, just hit the CVS or one of the numerous eateries at the Bayside, which are all within walking distance. If you're not getting on your cruise until later in the afternoon and want to explore after checking out of the hotel, they'll hold your luggage for $1 per piece. We got our luggage back just fine. The hotel will also shuttle you to the cruise port for a flat $5. No extra charges for luggage or extra people. The $5 shuttle is a great option since taxis are more expensive, and the bus that goes to the port operates infrequently. --- The bottom line: If you're going shopping and sightseeing in Miami and getting on a cruise, who cares if your room for one night is a little dirty? The $60 price and the unbeatable location (for travelers by foot/metro) easily offset the minor negatives of the hotel.
