Weird Events - Stuck!
We stayed at the World Center for our Christmas vacation, 12/25/08-1/1/09. The Hotel is massive, our room was wayyyyyy on the other end of the hotel and that made walking to it almost exhausting every time we had to come back to our room or leave our room to get to the main lobby.
Theres about 4 restaurants and plenty of other options for food or drink. The problem here is that all the restaurants are incredibly over priced, so be prepared to burn money if you get hungry and there are more than 3 in your party.
The night we got in were so hungry and tired, when we got in we ate at the World Center and for the 4 of us ended up spending about 80 dollars. The food was okay but I'm a vegetarian and a pretty healthy eater, if you have the same eating habits expect slim pickings. Salad gets old real quick.
There is a little fridge in the room but its chock full of stuff that you can buy, completely overpriced and there are no vending machines. Expect to pay about 3 for a small pop or 8 or some cashews. There's NO microwave in the room so even if you have leftovers you cannot warm up.
The room was pretty quiet, we ended up getting a room by the pool and that was pretty nice with easy access. We brought 2 teenage boys so they loved it.
The pools are gorgeous, sooo beautiful but if you don't get out there early enough you will find no seating, theres about 10 jacuzzi's, at least 2 outdoor pools and 1 indoor pool. Drinks are awesome outside, the soggy bottom had to be my favorite drink but watch out, its $12 for each drink.
If you get room service, expect at least a 20% tip, a $3 charge for something and don't forget the taxes.
The hotel staff was completely obsessive about cleaning the room, even after putting the don't clean ticket on our door they still came in and made the beds. The beds were completely comfortable but if you bring a spouse and 2 kids, the beds are pretty small if you get 2 queen beds. My husband was pretty tired, he could not fit on the beds. The bedding kept slipping off and was hard to keep on.
The night before we left, we heard that a woman committed suicide. She jumped from the 16th floor, that was pretty creepy. They were talking about how they thought the boyfriend might have done it because he's a doctor or something. I dk but I'm so glad that we weren't by the indoor pool that night because that would have been pretty horrible. What a sad way to end our vacation and what a sad thing to happen to someone.
I doubt that we'll go back, even though it was really pretty. It felt so corporate and we wanted something that didn't feel so uppity.
Also, its impossible to get off the property unless you take a cab. Some of the cab drivers are quacks and every one of them will try to rip you off so make sure if you use this hotel you use the cabs recommended by the hotel. The conceigere are pretty good about helping you with that. Get the price and the rate before you get in the cab. One cab driver told us that the fare would be 4 times as much on New Years Eve, which turned out to be a lie but we would have ended up paying $60 for cab fare to Hollywood Stuido's instead of the $12 that it really ended up costing us.
We'll probalby do Disney next time so that everything is a little more inclusive and accessible. We also need a kitchen so we don't spend crazy amounts of money on food that completely tasteless. Glad to be back home, 7 days is plenty for a vacation!
