I've seen nicer meth labs!

A/C was weak, only cooled when sun was down, and no A/C in hallway. Stairway handrails and balcony rail loose and insubstantial. TV was circa 1975 model w/13" screen and poor reception. Shower tub had "repaired" damages to bottom. Carpet smelled and A/C dribbled onto floor. Sliding door wouln't lock, security door to building had been broken and somewhat repaired. Furniture was worn out. Staff seemed harried and poorly trained. Lobby was full of what appeared to be out of work pimps and pandars.
The only good thing about this trap is the unobstructed view of the shuttle launch pad. The room we had was "riverside" (looking toward the pad), and would have been an excellent view except for the palm trees that are trying to survive the"expert" care that the grounds keepers give them. Apparently old barbeque grills and beer cans are not conducive to good palm growth. Still, I couldn't get a better look because the northern entrance to the riverside area was blocked off with rough boards and plywood (the style is early trailer park slum I believe). The pool seemed to be adequate, but since I hadn't had my 3rd world vaccines and innoculations, I didn't test the water. Finally, the rate of $99/night is excessive, the $550/month is much more realistic (works out to $18-$20/night ), however, I'm guessing that you need either a state wefare voucher or a methodone prescription to qualify for the better rate. All in all, this was the worst motel I have had the displeasure of ever staying at. The ONLY REASON anyone should ever book a room here is to watch a shuttle launch. If you do this, my reccomendation is that you also book a room at a reputable motel in the area, and only use this motel as a place to watch the launch. Also, I would reccomend that you bring an ice chest with cool drinks (limited A/C), bottled water, ice (I never found the ice machine and would probably be fearful of the ice anyway), and a tarp to spread on the furniture (to keep away from any random body fluids)
I've always said that you can learn from any experience, and this is one experience that I've learned to avoid in the future. Still, it only cost me $100, and so far I'm surviving (sure wish this rash would clear up though).
