Our Regular Hotel when in Plant City
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/28/09
We are in town for conventions 3 times a year and have always had a pleasent stay at the Red Rose Inn. Though it is an older hotel, it is clean and well maintained, and we have recently noticed most of the rooms have been updated. The staff goes out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The best part though is the full hot breakfast--so much better than the "continental" breakfast most similarly priced hotels offer. The pool area is nice and fitness room actually has some pretty nice equipment. Affordable price is a plus.

I would probably give it a 3 1/2 star rating
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/01/08
POSITIVE: The staff in the morning breakfast room was so welcoming and accomodating. They went around to make sure we all had what we needed, and made friendly small talk with us. The lobby was decorated very ornately, and the lobby bathrooms had fresh cloth towels to dry off with. I thought this was a nice touch. Also, this hotel is at a prime location, and close to Tampa. Pool was lovely as well. NEGATIVE: Our room was right at the front of the building. This means that on Friday night, you are within earshot of the live music being played in their dining room until 11:00 PM. I'm sure being in the dining room and dancing would be fun, but it's not so fun when you're trying to sleep and you hear "Livin La Vida Loca" blasting through your door. (ODD FACT: in the lobby, there seems to be almost 50+ pictures of the hotel owner, Evelyn, everywhere you look. We afelt like she was watching us at all times. I'm sure she's a great lady, but we thought all those pictures were a bit creepy, and self indulgent on her part.) The room itself was adequate and cleaned well. Our only complaints would be the a/c that sounds like a plane taking off, the bright parking lights that shine through the side of the curtains, and the tile in the bathroom that looked dated and had grime in it. Also, the front desk staff could really work on their "service with a smile." Overall, if you stayed here, you'll want to get a room away from the dining room. It is a decent place to stay for a couple of nights. There is also an Outback and Carabbas right near the hotel.

Unbelieveable Quality and Value
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/04/07
Absolutely beautiful facility with the ideal location for quick access to Tampa and Orlando. Staff is very attentive and friendly, making one feel at home. Rooms are somewhat dated but with my upgrade to a suite couldn't believe the decor. Truly a must see if your attending the Strawberry Festival. Hughly recommend the dining facility.

Overall the Hotel is beautiful; rich in history
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/01/07
I loved the decor and the history of the hotel. I was there for a convention and the banquet facilities and staff were a precision team; every need met and more. The food was excellent, every meal was delicious and the desserts! I did not give excellent remarks as the first night of my 3 night stay was absolutely horrible as an out of state high school athletic group stayed at the facility. My room location overlooked the pool; these students were EXCEPTIONALLY loud, out of control, foul mouthed and abnoxious until 2AM at the pool that closed several hours earlier. I did call and complain to the front desk and I'm sure many did, at one point I was ringing the front desk for almost 30 minutes before the front desk picked up the phone. I found out the next morning that this was due to the fact that the night staff was dealing with the issue and having to get the coaches to again come down and get their basketball players out of the pool and keep them in their rooms. The next 2 nights were fine and was able to sleep without any complaints of noise. (the students had left that morning) I think that in the future, this hotel should rethink venues such as high school guests or be sure to have extra staff on duty and have an action plan in place when the venue is not cooperating with the staff. IE - go to the person who is responsible immediately, it should not be 2 AM to finally go wake up the responsible party when the rest of the guests have not been able to sleep for at least 3 hours. Mark and his team have created a great atmosphere, the new owners have done extensive remodeling, this hotel has a great location but again I had to rate it with 1 of my 3 night stays a nightmare.

A Shing Star @ The Red Rose Dining Room, Ramada Plantation House
Fans of all ages turned out at the Red Rose Dining Room inside the Ramada Inn, to listen to the soulful tunes of Johnny Love followed by Bill Pinkney and the Drifters. In 1956, Johnny began singing Gospel in churches all over the country and crossed over to singing R&B in 1965 touring with such artists as Otis Redding, Pattie Labelle, Jackie Wilson, and many others. Johnny’s bassist and promoter Ed Lanier, of Magnolia Entertainment, encouraged Johnny to come out of retirement to cut a CD which will be “The Best of Collection,” soon to be released. Johnny is supported by his band “Free Time” which hosts: Jody Marsh- Keyboards, Louie Nagy- Drums and Ed Lanier- Bass. Soon following Johnny’s opening act of “Kansas City Here I Come,” was Bill Pinkney and The Drifters. Although personnel has changed over the years and have led to many permutations of The Drifters, Pinkney is the sole surviving 1953 original member. During the show, a woman in her 20’s handed Bill a note telling him that her father was a die hard fan of his and requested The Drifters' rendition of Irving Berlin's “White Christmas.” Bill addressed the young woman’s father at his table in front of the crowd. The father said, “If it weren’t for the Drifters, there wouldn't have been cruising music in the 50’s.” I agree Bill Pinkney at the ripe-old age of 80+ is remarkable. He crooned; soft-shoed, and even held my hand in front of the crowd as he sang “Help Me Make It Through the Night.” A devout Christian, people ask him how he can be a Christian and still perform in nightclubs. Bill touts, if you’re a real Christian when you walk in a nightclub, you’ll be one when you walk out. Gospel music is a part of his shows, and he’s not ashamed to share. He feels very blessed. When fans ask him “When are you going to sit back and just collect a social security check?" he tells them, “Never!" When and if he does retire, the music industry will lose one of its brilliant stars.
