Days Inn Starke, Starke

The location is OK....The service is fine except for the MANAGER who sits in the back room, behind the counter. The pool is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, so everyone is in it.... The internet sevice is not good at all. I asked if the internet would be up and running soon and it was 730pm. I was told that it was being worked on by the owner. I left the lobby and who did I see sitting by the pool having a drink? The OWNER....I ask what is going on with the internet and he stated he knows nothing about it not working......The next day we checked out.........I won't ever return to this hotel again.

We were very disapointed when first arriving to the hotel. There were dead cockroaches on the window sill and under the window on the floor. Spider webs covered the window once the curtians were opened. When my husband went to shower, the whole shower rod and curtian came falling down on him. Someone had replaced the sink faucet and left the old faucet in the corner of the bathroom, along with the empty boxes, directions and trash. Several times we tried getting someone to come and look at the room, but never got a response. We would have left, but being a big biker week end, there werent any avaliable hotels to go too. Upon leaving we did speak directly with the manager. We did tell him we were disgusted by the conditions of the room and would never stay there again. About a month or 2 later we recieved a hand written invitation to spend another night there for half price, but NOT on week ends that events are held. Needless to say, we threw it away as we made it pretty clear to him that we would not being staying there again.

The room that we stayed in was dirty it looked like they haven't cleaned or vaccuumed in months. The towels looked filthy, they were dark, instead of the white color they should have been, and thin like they need to buy new ones. We didn't have enough towel in our room when we arrived and after they come to clean the next morning, we had to ask for a couple more and the person at the front desk acted as though we were bothering her. Also even though we took all of our valuable with us it looked like some one was rifling through our suitcases.

Assigned room had a non-working A/C, gum on the carpet and was dirty. Desk clerk moved us to another room. It had food crumbs all over the counter top, carpet unswept, wall outlet between beds was hanging out of the wall! We had a reservation for five (with a cot) .. had only three towels; the cot was absolutely filthy (dust/dirt all over it). Phone quit working in the middle of a conversation; had to get it replaced. When we complained at checkout, the manager could have cared less! NOT a good place to stay!!!!

Unfortunately this town does not have any other accomodations and this is the only place to stay when we cannot find lodging or a cabin on the nearby military base. The town seems to be a cash only type of town and after using the ATM in the "hotel" lobby, one hour later, the card had been used by someone else in the town and I was notified by my bank. No joke. Don't swipe anywhere in this town! The rooms always look dirty, I never take off my shoes, I shower with flip-flops, and take my suitcase with me whenever I leave. I also take with me a cheap candle to have lit while there so the mildew and stale smoke of the room is smothered as well as a can of Raid and Lysol because of my first encounter with a huge roach and a fast, large spider. I travel with my own pillow and blanket for the bed and strip their comforter and leave it on the floor. Before I arrive I call the desk and pre-complain so they know to double check the room for me and make sure it is clean. The nearest better hotel is 45 minutes west in Gainesville. The Hilton and is very reasonable and never disappointing.
