State Plaza Hotel, Washington

Loved the place, people were nice and everything was really close by. metro was a short walk, and area was safe and never seemed shady! would stay there anytime again!

There is very little about this place that is like a hotel. It's more like student housing with a front desk. If you're not going to be around the room much, it's fine. LIKES: The staff were generally friendly. My room was clean. Close to the action. Wireless internet. DISLIKES: 1. I requested a cab at a certain time on two occasions and no cab arrived. As a result I was late for a marathon start. 2. Nobody offered to bring my bags to my room, which was through a garage and on the other side of the hotel. 3. The staff are not there 24 hours a day. 4. Looks a lot like a dormitory. The television was from the early 90's, no flat screen and limited cable.

Most recent issues: 1. A/C didn't work when we checked in; Maintenance fixed 2. Gas stove had a leak; was turned off so the stove couldn't be used. 3. Internet connection didn't work entire 5 days - they made no attempt to fix. 4. Phone didn't work for 2 days. 5. After making reservation online and notifying the hotel that we were driving and telling desk at check=in that we drove and needed the 'Parking tag', we didn't get said tag until a 2nd visit to desk finally got one. Parking is almost non-existent: 23 spaces (double parked) for the 230 rooms - they lease to commuters another 23 spaces. Front desk personnel at afternoon check-in and early morning (midnoght shift) were either merely rude and/or ignorant of what to do. After spending 5 of last 6 years at this 'hotel' I can hardly call their service "Impeccable" as they laughinly call it on their website.

The only thing that was nice about this low budget hotel was the location. The Metro is close and The National Mall is also close by. The hotel rooms were small with a small oudated bathroom that had no air conditioning. The kitchenette that was old and floors were cracked. It had a fridge but not a microwave. Parking was $30.00/day and the parking lot was very small and all the way on the opposite end of the hotel. They did not honor the promotion that I booked on line regarding getting a $25.00 gas card per day. Staff seemed confused at times and we had to wait for our room even after the check in time. Would not recommend this hotel unless you are on a budget and need a place to sleep.

this hotel is located right behind the state dept. and you will hear a lot of sirens due to motorcades. The elevators take for ever to come...there is no wi-fi internet, you have to connect the cable - which limits u to only certain distance...the business center has 2 computers- u have to pay to use it....but copying and faxing are free...some rooms tv's are old and need to be replaced and so does the kitchen...overall it need bit of touch up metro is 5 block and it is safe because there is adequate lighting and lot of people walk around there is a CVS as soon as u exit the hotel on the right hand side..there is also a 7-11 located on 19st street (make a left when exiting the hotel). from dca to hotel taxi fare was $12...in all it was a allrite experience...nothing fancy..

I will never stay there again. The service is OK but the whole inside environment makes you feel like you are in a cheap motel. The location is the only thing that is not disappointing.

When we arrived in D.C., we couldn't find the hotel and with one phone call the desk clerk talked us in-like an airplane. As we arrived at the curb, one bellman was at the door and one was at the rear of the van--before the doors were even opened. As we arrived in or room, we were greeted with the incorrect accomadations--which were remedied (at no additional charge) immediately. The staff was so courteous that when we needed a parking place, rather than put us in a garage that cost $25+ a night, one of the bellmen gave us his own parking place on the street and explained how to avoid a ticket the next morning. Between the great rate we recieved, the upgrade/correction and the parking savings, I believe that we saved around $600+ on suite accomadations and we had the best time that we have ever had on a family vacation---we definitely intend to stay there again.

I enjoyed staying at the State Plaza. The room was pretty clean and larger than I actually needed. I saved a lot of money by using the microwave in the kitchen instead of dining out. There was an Internet connection, although I did not use it, so I don't know if it was working or not. The breakfast was all right if you can manage on muffins, croissants and fruits. The hotel has 2 buildings, each with street entrances, so you can avoid cruising between the 2. The staff was not extremely friendly, but I always had a clean room and in the last day, they offered to keep my luggage for a few hours after I checked out. I'll probably stay again at the State Plaza on my next trip to Washington.

the kitchen and living room were great, saved loads of $$$ cooking our selves!! the bed room was a great size. we loved the entire stay! we were treated like royalty at the state plaza! going back again this summer!!

Its our own fault, for 'price-lining' this place, but absolutely nothing was as advertised. There was no parking, there is no room service, the restaurant was closed for renovations, the maids swiped my wifes junk jewelry, the elevators were possessed by satan, the continental breakfast made we barf (complete with rotting apples) - never ever ever ever ever even think about this place, I place a hex upon all who profit from this dump.
