Hotel Rouge: Offering Boutique Trendiness at a Price that Doesn't Offend
The Hotel Rouge is a boutique hotel, which means that it's a smaller hotel (and not pertaining to a chain of hotels) that lies within the trendy/artsy spectrum of hotels in the Washington, D.C. area, (of which, granted there are few--but, hey, this isn't New York!)
Although D.C. is definitely noted for its more traditional and stately hotels peopled by Presidents and Senators alike (e.g., the Four Seasons, the Omni Shoreham, etc.), the Hotel Rouge provides a breath of fresh air for those in the socio-political environment of our Nation's Capital who seek the less conventional and less conservative.
The rooms boldly combine animal prints with bright fuschia, chinese blue with bold black and white stripes, and furniture that is both unique and carefully chosen for an overall impression of audacious trendiness. Notably, for those travelers seeking novelty, from one stay to the next you will never find yourself in the same room twice, (as compared with the cookie-cutter bedspreads, artwork, and accoutrements of name-brand hotel rooms).
Although to the more refined travelers, this level of contemporary style might represent somewhat of an eyesore (the cartoonishly high-backed thrones that stand menacingly in the lobby, for example, might prove to some to be a little too reminiscent of "Beetlejuice"), but for a youthful, fun-loving crowd this is the hotel of choice, replete with a cozy, hip bar that serves great specialty martinis and other fruity libations, (as well as spicy quesadillas, calamari, and other tasty trinkets worthy of ample sampling).
If you're looking for a different kind of weekend getaway, or just a cool bar to get out to for the night, Hotel Rouge or the Rouge Bar would prove a dramatic and remarkable choice, with one caveat: This boutique hotel is not for the faint of heart.
