Great place to stay

This place was perfect for what my husband and I needed! Free parking, free shuttle to metro, free WiFi, and free breakfast. We went to D.C for the day and Kings st. in the evening, the shuttle was there to pick us up within 5 mins of calling. Nice clean rooms with small microwave and fridge. Cant wait to go back!

Great value!

I was traveling with my husband and 2 children (pre-teen and teen). We basically slept/showered and ate breakast at the hotel and were gone the rest of the day. Rooms small but clean. Great for people wanting to visit DC and VA. Free breakfast saved time and money and there was something for everyone - could even make your own waffles - which were actually quite good. Great location for people wanting to visit DC and locatons in VA. Shuttle to metro quick and reliable. DC 1/2 hour on Metro. Older children and teens liked the Metro. Don't know if I'd recommend for someone with small children touring DC. ALso wouldn't recommend for people who want to walk/run/bike from their hotel because of the location (busy roads/hill). All in all a great value for people touring DC and VA locations -- can't beat the price!

Just what the doctor ordered!

My husband and I stayed here one night after I was recovering from surgery at a local hospital to give me some much needed extra rest before our 3 hour drive home. Our room was a suite and was well appointed, clean, quiet and VERY comfortable. The staff were helpful and friendly and they responded quickly and pleasantly to our request for a few extra pillows. It was definately a good value and is also pet friendly. We would definately recommend it to other travelers and we'll no doubt stay their again when visiting.

A good experience

We spent 6 nights from June 4 - 9 and were very pleased with the accomodations. The staff was helpful and pleasant. They offered to print our boarding passes for us the evening before we departed. The shuttle was very convenient and we seldom had to wait longer than 10 minutes for the driver to pick us up at the nearby Metro station. The breakfast room was very well run and had abundant food throughout the morning. The elevators were fast and our room on the 9th floor (at the back of the hotel) was quiet and clean. Our grandson enjoyed the pool each day. The mattresses were not very comfortable and we'd suggest that they be replaced. All in all, we were happy that we chose the Van Dorn Comfort Inn.

We couldn't wait to leave

The hotel staff were not friendly. The individual at the front desk didn't seem happy to service me and my family. We were in the area because my son was in a bowling tourament at US Bowling. The room wasn't the best, nor was the hotel. We travel alot and scored this hotel our worst experience yet. My husband wasn't able to access the internet on his labtop in the room. He called the front desk and they directed him to call their web service (ethostream). He spent at least an hour trying to get a proper connection. Finally they told him that the hotel did not have the proper device for internet connection. The hotel offers free internet service in every room. This is false advertisement and should be eliminated from their amenities.I will not visit this hotel again, nor will I refer anyone to this comfort inn in alexandria. This was my first stay at a comfort inn hotel. I have rated this hotel as a two in service, cleanliness, and value. The location is a three due,to the address was easy to find and accessible to highway.

Good Things & Bad Things

Staff not overly friendly or helpful. Rooms smelled of cigarette smoke. On the flip side, room and bathroom was clean. Location convenient. Down side was entrance in and out of hotel difficult because of entering and exiting from busy 4 lane highway.

issues with billing

The hotel was clean and generally in a good location. The staff at the desk were minimally helpful. Problem stemmed after we arrived home and found they had billed us twice. Were slow to respond and eventually told us to deal with the credit card company. Obviously, you should hope you don't have a problem after the fact with this location. Also the elevators were extremely slow. The attached IHOP restaurant served good food at reasonable prices.

A good location

Located relatively near a metro stop, and they run a shuttle between the hotel and the metro until about 10PM. The only negative - located off a freeway - can be a bit noisy.
