Great place to get robbed
By chvy87, 9/16/10
The hotel was as bad as most hotels. old carpet mildew etc. which is to be expected if you stay at hotels often. What was not expected was the maids leave several doors open while they are cleaning. While I was there my camera, printer , and several miscellaneous items were stolen from my room with no signs of breaking and entering. I told the front desk about it and was not offered any compensation.

Does Not Live Up to the Howard Johnson Name!
By Daniel, 8/25/10
Worst hotel we've ever booked thru Travelocity: smelly, in need of serious repairs. Overall, standard of cleanliness falls far too short to bear Howard Johnson name. Recalls the low standard of cleanliness I've experienced in travels thru developing countries. We killed three crickets in our room! Spiderwebs in corners, dust everywhere. Mildewed shower curtain, showerhead sprayed everywhere but on one's body, warped ceiling tiles above, rusted white metal braces securing tiles. Bath tiles with mold and mildew - nasty overall. Our tub did not drain, but was repaired upon request, but they never repaired showerhead. Very kind cleaning staff, but they do very poor-to-mediocre job. Also, the kind, elderly cleaning man has bad habit of knocking while entering guests rooms, when he decides to knock. He did it several times with us -- totally unacceptable hotel employee protocol. And they should shut down their exercise room. Every antiquated piece of equipment in the scary, dungeon-like room is in drastic disrepair -- they should be ashamed of themselves for allowing guest to enter the unsafe room - simply terrible! And hotel is not well secured; very unsafe because all doors are ALWAYS unlocked and accessible to anyone. Overall, not a great deal for the money -- simply not maintained well enough, and should not bear the Howard Johnson name (worst one I've ever stayed in). Please do yourself, your family, a favor and stay elsewhere. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

I can not begin to tell you..........
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/26/09
I can not begin to tell you what an awful place this is. The hotel itself is filthy, and there is no security. The doors to the buildings are all propped open or can be easily opened without a card. The building smells like cigarettes and who knows what else, it doesn't even matter if your room is smoking or non-smoking, the rooms all reek. The hotel is obviously never cleaned. There were cigarette butts and trash in the hallway, and people just threw their garbage out the window. The hotel is a hangout for creeps, who will wake you up at 2 a.m. with their partying, thanks to the paper-thin walls. The service is good though (they shut up the partiers) and the sheets and towels were clean. But overall, do NOT stay here. I was sorely tempted to sleep in my car, but would be to creeped out by all the random creeps who seemed to be coming and going.

My Standard Place to Stay in Newark
By Paul, 11/5/08
Make sure you don't stay too closse to the road or the noise may bother you. Back parts of the hotel are quiet and comfortable. Staff is very attentive. I have stayed about six times over the past year. It is by far the best value in Newark. Definitely recommend.

Will stay again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/11/08
My husband and I stayed here in March 2008. They are remodeling and the room we had was completely redone. New carpet, new paint, etc. You can't beat their breakfast bar! We will stay again in May. It is right off I95 which is very nice.

I would never stay there again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/17/07
i spent 2 nights in this motel is september 07 the room was dingy, the carpet was old, the bedding smelled and the blanket was hard and matted with matte falling off in your hair and on the sheets. the outlets on one side of the room didn't, work the microwave was changed twice because they didn't work. the bathroom sink fixture moved back and forth when you turned the water on and off, and the toilet water would run constantly until you pulled the handle up. Also you could not open the curtains to get daylight if your room was on the first floor because the driveway and entrance is directly in front of your window and people could look right into your room.

Pleasantly surprised
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/11/07
This place is a very well kept secret. We were pleasantly surprised at the very clean rooms and professional staff. We only stayed for one night, but it would have been just great if we had stayed over more nights. Definitely recommend this one.

Not Bad
By Krista, 5/8/07
This was your average cheap hotel room. Not the cleanest but not the worst. The bed was large and overall it wasn't bad. It's not walking distance from the University because the road is not safe to walk along.

Not As Advertised!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/9/06
Our soccer team booked this hotel for a tournament. The web site is absolutely NOTHING like the hotel itself. Perhaps it has been remodeled (I would have hated to see it before remodeling!), but the rooms were musty smelling, dingy, and just plain old. The bathrooms are ancient. One of our players even found bugs in her bed both nights we stayed there! The Management made several promises to our team manager but didn't follow through. The only positive aspects of the hotel were the breakfast, which was very nice, and the cleaning staff, who were the friendliest members of the entire staff. Still, I would NEVER stay there again.
