Winners Circle Beach & Tennis Resort, Solana Beach

Check in at 1:30 pm. Went to our room. Room was clean. Sliding door to a little patio with 2 chairs and table. Had a gate to the pool. Everything was great. Had a shuttle to Del Mar racetrack. Took you close to the entrance. and pick you up after the races..Came back and the parking lot was pack. They share the lot with 2 restaurants. Only a problem if you were looking for a place to park at that time. Did the same thing on saturday. We enjoyed the weekend immensely. Next year we want to do it for a week

We had a 1 BR unit that sleeps 4, but this time it was just my wife and me. The resort is about 10 minutes from the San Diego city limits. The clean first floor unit overlooked a parking lot neighboring a great fish restaurant. Other units overlook the pool area. Although the restaurant was busy, especially on weekend nights, noise was not a problem when we kept the patio doors closed. There are two bathrooms, one with a tub, the other with a large comfortable shower. We definitely enjoyed having our separate baths. On the premises there are pools for adults and a separate one for small kids. There is also a large hot tub. The rec center has a pool table and large screen TV, as well as a small video game room for teens and tweens. There are also tennis courts (independently run at extra cost). Landscaping in the pool area is magnificent - whoever maintains it is an artist! Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are available at the main lobby every morning - a great convenience for us. The Del Mar Racetrack is across the street, but we went after the season was over and the crowds left. There is a weekly swap meet at the racetrack after the season. There were great restaurants everywhere, many with after-season discounts. A guest guide in the room has all the information about local and City places and the 2 in-suite TVs. There are many gourmet restaurants and specialty shops along the coast, about 5 minutes away. At the time we went, parking was not a problem. From there, it's a short walk to the beach and beach-front parks. The front desk people are friendly and courteous. We picked up fliers and scheduled tours, including a trip to Tijuana and the Air and Space Museum. We did not go to the San Diego Zoo this year, but it's a great place if you bring kids.. On the downside, the in-room TVs were older analog units (separate DVD players), the kitchen lacks adequate storage space for groceries (but is well stocked with utensils and dinnerware), the refrigerator is tiny, and the decor is definitely from another era. We did not expect the Ritz Carlton or panache, and we were not disappointed. I was told that the units will be upgraded and modernized next year. We're looking forward to returning.

The place was basically clean, and I loved the fact that it is in the middle of just about everything you would want to do just north of San Diego, but when you get a room that is going for $185 a night, you expect it to smell better than a 1950's motel. The north building was hot and moldy smelling. The bathrooms were small and stuck in the 50's with old small round bowl toilets, very uncomfortable. The patio doors did not close properly and lock. There were no writing supplies or information on local restaurants or things to do. This building's patios face the side parking lot of a Fish Market restaurant so you get to listen to all the patrons coming and going, and them cleaning up and dumping trash till 1:30 in the morning on weekends. Then you get the trash trucks at 6:30am every other day, which only broke up the monotony of the street construction next door that also started at 6:30am. We spent one week there, and as a resort owner knowing what these places should be like, will not be back.

This is a great little secret in San Diego area. Close to Solana Beach....quaint little beach town. Pool and Jacuzzi recently revovated. Clubhouse being refurbished in 2007. I will be back. Our unit was a huge 1 bedroom. Close to freeway and golf courses.

The resort is old but the rooms are okay. The restaurant is really a disco used by the locals. We could hear the base until 2 AM. Not the place to go if you want to get some rest. The nearby beach cost $3 per hour to park. We were so disappointed that we left early.

MY FAMILY GOES EVERY YEAR TO THE WINNER CIRCLE ! WE HAVE A GREAR TIME GOING TO THE RACE TRACK AND JUST HANGING OUT AROUND THE POOL .......................
