Nice time
By ,
Just got back home from a nice weekend getaway to San Diego. We had no problems with this hotel. Sure there were homeless people around, but noone bothered us. The rooms were clean, the staff was courteous, the location was perfect. For the rate we got, we couldn't be happier. Sounds like some of the people complaining on here, are used to 4 or 5 star accomadations and you're not going to get that here. If there is one drawback to our trip, that would be that we heard a lot of airport noise. But that usually didn't begin until about 6:30 am which I was awake by about an hour anyway. If you're looking for a decent deal, you can get it here.

A wonderful experienced in San Diego
By ,
The experinced we had on our first trip to San Diego with 2 small children was great. Upon our check in we were greeted by a young lady who made everything possible to make our stay enjoyable she upgraded us to a KIDS SUITE which it was us privacy when our children took their nap! The only issue we had was parking is too tight.... I would recommend this location to ANYONE.... I can't wait for my next return in April of 09

Not as bad as I thought from reviews!
By ,
I traveled to San Deigo Jun 26 - Jul 1, 2008 with my 5 year-old son. I booked this hotel as part of a package and thought I had made a big mistake after reading the reviews. But since I couldn't get my money back I decided to go ahead and give it a try and if I felt unsafe or like I was staying in a dirty place we would checkout and find another hotel at whatever the cost. I am glad to report that it was not bad at all. Please keep in mind that we were not there for a luxury hotel. My intent was to save on the hotel since we would be out and about most of the time, and use our money for fun things to do. For that purpose the hotel (or motel) was fine. I would not go there for a relaxing, grown-up get-away or a business trip though since having a nice hotel is the primary "fun" you will have on those types of trips. But for traveling with kids, on a budget, it was fine. I never felt unsafe, the restaurant on-site had good "family" food and was very convenient. The pool was great for kids; my son had a ball! I would recommend that you stay up front by the Lobby/pool. I recommend building A, and we were on the 3rd floor (room 322). I told them that I wanted the safest room they had and this is what they recommended. It worked fine. The room was called a "king suite"; it had a separate living area with a TV, microwave, small frig, and sofa with pull-out bed. The bedroom was connected with french doors and it also had a tv, vanity/sink area in the room, king bed with lots of pillows, and a separate bathroom. Overall, it was perfect for me and my son but I could see where it would be cramped for a family of four and very cramped for more than 4. I found the staff to be helpful and nice; no rudeness as reported in other reviews. The hotel/motel is centrally located and we got to all the major attractions (Zoo, Legoland, Sea World, Balboa Park, Coronado Island, etc) in not much time at all and with a GPS it was perfect! If you go into this expecting it to be a family, budget hotel, then you will be fine. All I really expected was for it to be safe, clean, and convenient; not run-down, nasty, with scary people wondering around. It's not a luxury hotel or resort by any means. It's just a Holiday Inn!!! Overall, we had a blast in San Deigo and would love to return. In fact, my son didn't want to leave! The weather was fantastic!

I would look elsewhere...
By ,
If you're looking for a place directly across the street from the sports arena, this place might be fine. If you're just going to San Diego. Stay away. The Pros: No complaints about the room. They were fine. The Cons: Slightly dumpy area. Less than friendly staff. No coffee in the lobby for the guests. The "Sports Bar" was totally depressing. No people and the tv's had CNN on.

Give it a C
By ,
To be fair, the place did have the following good things: lobby was pretty (though you're hopefully not there very long), and the room looked liked they'd tried to rennovate it. However, the following made it an "average" stay, but less than I expected. The Internet never worked, though it's given as a benefit. The first night I was told they were rebooting the servers but it never worked. Granted, it my have been my laptop, but I find it unlikely. The parking, as others have noted, is horrific! I was blessed to be able to find a spot near my room usually, but it was packed, and I wasn't even there during peak season! They do NOT have enough parking spaces for the amount of rooms. Plus, they're so tiny that if anyone parks over their line or it's bigger than a normal compact car, it's like they took two spots and you CANNOT park there. I have a Honda civic, pretty small, an it wouldn't work safely to park there! Also, the walls are thin, you can hear the water pipes VERY clearly, and I even heard a baby in the room next to me I believe. Again, I was there during off season (not summer), so it was tolerable. However, the cleaning crew starts very loudly at 8m, so it negates being able to sleep in since the walls are thin. I'd recommend staying somewhere else, unless parking, being a light sleeper, and internet isn't a big deal to you. I got this room through a discount site, but I would never pay full price for a room here.

Mixed review
By ,
I have mixed feelings about this hotel. As far as location to Sea World, the beaches and places to eat, this place was great. The value was not bad considering how expensive other suites in San Diego were. However, the suite is VERY small. If you need to use the pull out sofa for someone, there is absolutely no floor space. Not much room for suitcases either. Another problem is that you can hear every footstep of the person above you. Not very conducive to falling asleep. The service for check-in was slow and the restaurant service even slower. The final straw for us was the cockroach in the bathtub. Also, there are several adult entertainment places close by. Not great when you have kids. This place would be fine for a one night stay, but not for an extended vacation.

Holiday Inn Mission Bay
By ,
The location of the hotel was perfect. It is a 15-minute drive to all major San Diego tourist attractions. The concierge assisted immensely in suggesting events prior to our arrival. The staff at the front desk was kind and helpful, even though I was with a group of 30 (almost all 12 year olds!) The restaurant employees were excellent and the customer service was incredible. The food was fresh and good, but way too expensive. There was no deal for the amount of people for the number of days that we stayed. The on site gym was a major perk. It was a full sized workout facility and was free to all guests. There was free wireless Internet in the rooms, another big plus. The rooms left something to be desired. We rented 6 suites for 4 nights and squeezed 5 people into each suite. The main room was spacious enough, but the living room was tiny. The couch was a pull our bed and you had to actually move a table and chairs in order to make the bed fit. There was no other place for the table and chairs, so the person sleeping on the pull out bed had the table hovering over their feet as they slept. It was impossible to walk anywhere when the bed was open. If there were a need to evacuate the room quickly, it would be a dangerous exit for the people in the main bedroom. I would recommend the hotel and I would even stay in their rooms again, however, NOT in the suite.

We got an upgrade!
By ,
The room was very large and it was clean. The two TV's were a big plus. The proximity to a restuarant, bar and the sports arena were tops! It would have been a 5 star, if the lobby had not smelled like rotting plastic!!!
