The Tradewinds at Carmel, Carmel-by-The-Sea

My wife and I just got back from 3 nights at the Tradewinds. I first must say that Carmel does not have very many high end lodging options in town. Many of the motels are older and are pretty standard looking motels with not a lot of quality built into them. Very few have gone under a major re-furbish. The Tradewinds is an exception. They have done an excellant job short of major structure changes to give this motel a fresh look. The service was very good, The rooms were clean and nicely appointed in quality furnishings, parking no problem. Some nice touches in the room included choc.covered strawberries. It is just 2 blocks from the start of shops and restaurants, (although it sits on a slight hill that can challenge the legs after a day of walking). Otherwise you don't really need to drive anywhere except to go to the beach. The walking from the motel is so good with so much to see each block can take 5 minutes just checking everything out and thats just the residential blocks! what a beautiful town! In terms of value, despite the re-furbish it still looks and feels like a 70's motel, So at $325. it's not the best value in a room/motel but with so few quality lodging choices in town you would be staying at one if not the nicest place in Carmel and to win that distinction for $325. maybe that's not bad value after all.

I had the recent pleasure of spending three nights at the Tradewinds. My room had a view of the water. It was heavenly. The fireplace and open door made for wonderful sleeping. I can not wait to return.Breakfast always included meeting new people who were all interesting and from all over the world!

I loved the decor: Asian inspired, gas-lit fireplace, bedside rock fountain, blooming orchids and luxurious linens. Customer service was the best I've ever experienced, we felt like we were the only ones there. Prime location is ideal for those interested in exploring downtown Carmel. We never had to drive anywhere. Will go back in a heartbeat.

The ocean views and the service were perfect. We spent a week here and had a great wedding on the beach. The staff and tranquility were exactly what we were looking for.

Newly renovated with great taste and sophistication. Was recommended by friends ....so we were a little worried but it exceeded our expectations. We had such a great time and the staff was superb.

Located just 3 blocks from the main street in carmel, this zen-like hotel was very relaxing. a very nice sized room with gass fireplace and balcony. at night there is a common fire pit where we sipped wine next to for hours. morning breakfast was also very nice..fresh fruit and good breads.

We went to Carmel without reservations because we only wanted to stay one night (most hotels reqire 2 or 3 nights on the weekends). The Tradewinds was the only hotel that still had a dog friendly room available and they were fabuolous! Cookies at check in, spectacular rooms with slate tile, a soaking bath tub and separate glass shower; the shampoo and soaps provided were spa quality. There are fabulous local restaurants that will deliver hot, delicious food to your room and the delivery fee is only $6. The hotel serves wonderful, complementary continental breakfast every morning! We'll go back to this hotel again and again.
