Never again
By Cynthia, 12/31/09
Thundercloud Resort is split in two locations, one has the inside pool one doesn't. We stayed in the so-called family suite. This location is not for children, young adults who go to drink and ski may be ok. The place is falling apart everytime you flush the toilet the floor would be wet from between the tiles. The stove had knobs for only two of the burners (we didn't see if they worked) One night around 9pm the heater went out, called the front to have it fixed and they said they would send someone out, that night the tempature fell in the low 20's and NO ONE came out to fix it (the fire place is more for looks then heat). The beds were broken. They charge more then it is worth. The Motel 6 would have been a better choice. Cindy

good with the bad
By the Q's, 07/06/09
ok, so this place is pretty ghetto. I bought air fresheners because the room was stale, the window glass was broken and the decor was just 1970's funky. So if you're high class skip it. We did go there for the fourth of july and could see the fireworks PERFECT from our room!! We just sat at the table and chairs in front of the big bay window and saw the show. So i didn't feel so bad after all. I guess we got our monies worth.

DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT
By souax, 02/04/08
It is the most dirties and worst place ever to stay at in Big Bear. Management is unprofessional and horrible. Trust me you would not want to stay at this creepy place. It is old, cracks in the ceiling and wall, heater does not work, pool is dirty, looks creepy to be wallking down the hall of the buidling and it is not a warm comfortable place. We checked in at 2pm and was out by 1am because we experienced some weird strange nosies and motions. I would not recommand this place. Motel 6 is even better.

get real, people...

...i dont see how u guys can all write such negative things about this place...i personally thought it was great, ive been there twice in one month and i would go again if possible...its amazingly close to the actual ski/snowboarding resort (snow summit/snow valley/etc.,)....its very cozy, fireplace, warm, great little fully functional kitchen and everything an average hotel stayer would NEED....lets get serious peolpe...if u are going to complain about every little thing maybe u should stay at the ritz-carlton and have your private jet drop u off to go snowboarding in the morning....bottom line, ur not paying 100 dollars for the room ...its the location and experience ur paying for and i think its worth it!

Room is dirty, heater was broken in 2 AM, room smell so bad, nothing to recommend for this hotel. The door lock was broken too! Final word: AVOID.

Much better than the other reviewers
By Ed, 07/06/07
The manager was great! He even cooked my son a special steak dinner. My room was quite clean and everything worked fine. All of the complaints of the others must have either gotten taken care of or they must have gotten a bad room. Hey, positive people need to get off their duff and write. Don't just leave this as a forum for complainers. We could use the lobby kitchen to cook our meals. They provided all the utensils and everything you needed. The location was in the middle of everything!

FIND ANOTHER PLACE!!
By , 07/07/06
1. Indoor and Outdoor pool were closed due to cleaning. Water was dark green. 2. We were placed in an upstairs room and the window was coming off the track. Not safe when you have 3 kids. 3. Carpet was filthy. My son's knees were black after crawling around for a few minutes. 4. Overall, a place I would never visit even if it was free.

WILL NEVER BRING GUESTS THERE AGAIN
By Lorraine, 03/16/06
AS A PAST FULL TIME RESIDENT OF BIG BEAR, YOU CAN IMAGINE MY SURPRISE WHEN I RESERVED A ROOM AT THIS HOTEL AND WAS TOTALLY DISGUSTED & EMBARRASED WHEN I ENTERED THE ROOM WITH MY GUESTS WHO HAD NEVER BEEN TO BIG BEAR. THE BATHROOM HAD A HALF-A-- PATCH JOB OVER THE SHOWER, THE DRESSER WAS FALLING APART, THE DRAPES WERE FALLING OFF THE ROD, THEN WHEN THE ROOM WAS CLEANED THE NEXT DAY, THEY FORGOT TO CLEAN OUT THE COFFEE POT. THE PARKING AREA WAS NOT PLOWED, THUS GUESTS WERE PARKING ALL OVER THE PLACE...TOTALLY OVERPRICED...$140. A NITE FOR WHAT!!! AND THEN THEY HAD THE NERVE TO LEAVE AN EMPTY ENVELOPE IN THE ROOM MARKED "TIPS" THAT PLACE IS IN DIRE NEED OF MAJOR TLC....

Terrible value - they have no clue
By chuckr, 03/04/06
Knowing nothing about the area, we made the mistake of calling the Big Bear Chamber of commerce to get their recommendation of a good, family friendly hotel for our three day stay in Big Bear Lake. They obviously knew nothing about family friendly amenities, cleanliness or service, so beware of what you hear from them. The actual hotel is a roadside, 60's era, mom and pop looking place. We got in to town late with a tired 4 yr old, so we had no other lodging options. Although the staff was friendly, they were either ignorant, or apathetic about what they were offering. With outside room access, we had garbage and dirty laundry duffels STACKED outside our door - nice view :-( Our room had blinds that did not work, a bouncy floor with ratty carpeting, and a decor that was past the need for updating - it just needed to be gutted and re-done. Do yourself a favor and just stay away. I do not know how they can afford to stay in business.
