The only hotel located on San Francisco's famous Union Square, The Westin St. Francis is just steps from first-class shopping, world-renowned dining, award-winning theater and a bustling arts district. The next 100 years have truly begun at The Westin St. Francis as the hotel celebrates the completion of a two-year, $40 million transformation. This is the most extensive restoration undertaken by the property since the reconstruction after The Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. Known as the "Grand Dame" of Union Square, The Westin St. Francis opened in 1904, and has been a symbol of elegance for San Francisco for more than a century. While the classic aesthetic of the hotel's rich past is honored, its modern amenities embrace the future, creating a perfect blend of timelessness. Approximately $12 million was invested in the complete transformation of all 614 guestrooms and common areas in the Main Building. Guestrooms bridge the world between the old and new with a fresh sophistication that perfectly showcases the classically beautiful 1906 architecture and boast signature Westin Heavenly Beds®, 37" flat screen televisions and ergonomic desk chairs. Hallways and common areas have been refreshed with a fusion of present-day and classic San Francisco - contemporary furniture and plush carpeting are juxtaposed with time-honored black and white historical photography of the hotel and San Francisco.

Definitely memorable...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/06/09
Not only everyone complained about waiting for the elevators, when we decided to take the stairs 20 stories down to reach the lobby, we've been thrown on the sidewalk by the memorably rude security. Make sure you bring your sense of humor with you!

Avoid at all cost
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/10/09
Over priced, and over rated. Dirty hotel. I saw some trash next to the elevators that was not picked up for three days. Rude staff, too filled with their delusions of this dump they call a hotel. A motel 6 would be better. Location is good, there are other hotels in the area. I will never stay at this place, even for free. What a dump.

By tired, 05/19/09
PRICEQUOTED WAS NOT HONORED AT CHECK OUT.ROOM SERVICE TRAY WAS LEFT OUT SIDE OF DOOR 3 DAYS. REMOVED TO ELEVATOR BY US. BEER FOUND UNDER BATHROOM SINK RECEIPT DATED 2006. THIS PLACE IS OVER RATED AND MISLED US ON PRICING WHEN RESERVATIONS WEREMADE. THE MANAGER WOULD NOT SPEAK TO US ON CHECK OUT. NOW WE KNOW WHERE NOT TO STAY IN SANFRANCISCO .COFFEE IN THEIR LOBBY IS 3.69 ACUP IT IS ONLY 2.19 AT THE AIRPORT. WE WILL MARK THIS UP FOR A LESSON LEARNED. OUR GROUP HAD A TOTAL OF 3 ROOMS SO THEY HAVE LOST A FEW FREQUENT TRAVELERS.

What century are they living in??
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/05/09
Overpriced; under value. This place is a come on of over priced add-ons. There is NO justification to charge $15/day for Internet access.. in fact, wireless was FREE at this very hotel a few years ago. AND they CHARGE for access to the gym... $12/day. What century are they living in? Only restaurante open after 7:30PM is the over priced Miro where they forgot that we are in the worst recession since the Great Depression. The bar menu has $20 plates and when the food comes it is $2/bite. Ridiculous! Go ionly if you have money to burn

Excellent hotel in the heart of everything!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/30/08
Chinatown, SFMOMA, world-class shopping, are all within walking distance! Forget getting a car! The hotel has alot of character and it reminded me alot of Europe. Yes everything isn't perfect but that's the charm. Staff was extremely polite although you do have to keep a close watch on all the extra charges if you're on budget. Getting this kind of luxury (with alot of character) in the heart of San Francisco at this price can't be beat!

Centrally located
By A Yahoo! User, 07/14/08
This is a very nice hotel, but it's a gamble on how nice a room you will get. The old part of the hotel has bigger rooms for the most part, that are "regal" but the new towers have the better views of the City. You are paying for the location as well as the hotel room, so it is expensive. You will have to pay to park, but in S.F. that is the way it is, no getting around it unless you want to do the taxi thing. You can walk everywhere for shopping and eatting from this hotel. Chinatown is only a few blocks away. The Curan Theater is one block away, along with a few bars. Other attractions, such as the zoo, the beach, Golden Gate Park, Golden Gate Bridge, Pier 39, ect will require sometype of transportation to and from if you stay at this hotel. I will continue to stay at this hotel when I come to S.F. overnight.

Probably won't be back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/01/08
The room was lovely and the bed was very comfy, but there was a very loud bar apparently outside across the street and it sounded like the band was playing in our room until very late, both nights we were there. They particular seemed to favor Jimmy Hendrix. It was very loud and annoying. Also the vanity in the bathroom was cracked at the corner and it had been taped back together with packing tape. I really expected a bit more than that from such a nice hotel. When we checked in, we discovered that there was only 1 bed in the room and we had asked for 2. The desk clerk was very rude about it and made a big point of telling us we would have to pay extra to get 2 beds. He also insisted we do not even touch the minibar or we would be charged. What the heck was that about? The location is wonderful, the lobby is beautiful, but we didn't receive any level of service to warrant the price. I think we'll be staying somewhere else next time we're in San Francisco.

NOT WORTH THE TROUBLE OR EXPENSE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/03/07
We were expecting a nice room for the price and hotel rating and to our dismay, the room was tiny with a twin bed on the older part of the building. No insulation whatsoever. We could hear conferences going on and loud music in their function rooms vibrating through the guest rooms till 1:30 AM and the best remedy the manager could give us was EARPLUGS...now is this a joke??? You book an expensive room to be comfortable in the hope of getting a good nights' sleep and you end up using earplugs. If sleep is of importance to you...DON'T book at this hotel!!! There's extra charge for the use of their gym, which is totally unheard of in other hotels. They also charge extra for internet access. Parking fees' horrendous at $54/day. So if you're on a budget shop for cheaper parking garages close to the hotel. Other than that San Francisco is a great city and we'll keep going back for more just not at st. francis, westin..

Bad Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/19/07
I stayed at the Westin for a few days during the summer of 2007 in the "main" area. The room was very tiny. There was only enough room for my bed, a television and a tiny dresser. The carpet was green and obviously very old. Nothing in the room was grand or luxurious and I had NO view. I paid $345.00 per night for that. AND in addition to the $345.00 per night, they held $150 per night on my card for "incidentals." The service was great and everyone was efficient. the bathrooms were small but the showerheads were nice. The only good thing about the Westin is the fitness center. There I sought relief. I would workout for an hour, at $12.00 per day, take a long shower, put on a Westin plush white robe, and sit and drink tea and read for an hour. It was the only saving grace for the Westin. I would rather have stayed at Hotel Nikko or the Hilton. That is what I suggest you do!!!!!!
