Description

The only hotel located on San Francisco's famous Union Square, The Westin St. Francis San Francisco on Union Square is just steps from first-class shopping, world-renowned dining, award-winning theater and a bustling arts district. The next 100 years have truly begun at The Westin St. Francis as the hotel celebrates the completion of a $40 million transformation. This is the most extensive restoration undertaken by the property since the reconstruction after The Great 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. Known as the "Grand Dame" of Union Square, The Westin St. Francis San Francisco on Union Square opened in 1904, and has been a symbol of elegance for San Francisco for more than a century. While the classic aesthetic of the hotel's rich past is honored, its modern amenities embrace the future, creating a perfect blend of timelessness. Approximately $12 million was invested in the complete transformation of all 614 guestrooms and common areas in the Main Building. Guestrooms bridge the world between the old and new with a fresh sophistication that perfectly showcases the classically beautiful 1906 architecture and boast signature Westin Heavenly Beds®, 37" flat screen televisions and ergonomic desk chairs. Hallways and common areas have been refreshed with a fusion of present-day and classic San Francisco - contemporary furniture and plush carpeting are juxtaposed with time-honored black and white historical photography of the hotel and San Francisco.

Exquisite- San Fransisco's best
By ,
I can't say enough good about this impressive historical hotel. Location was great, Food - Great, Comfortable cozy classy room, The Lobby was very impressive. I have been in some of the best hotels on the west coast and this was a very nice place. I wish they had a pool, otherwise I was very pleased. Just a great spot. I would glady come back to the St. Francis in the heart of the city by the bay.

Awesome
By ,
I recently stayed at the St. Francis with my boyfriend. We both had just gotten back from a deployment so we wanted to have a nice weekend together. From the first moment we walked in we were treated with the greatest care. The staff made us feel important and the service was excelent. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable. If I ever visit San Francisco again I will be sure to stay at the St. Francis.

location was perfect
By ,
The location was perfect and the staff went out of their way to assist us with information on ski packages, tours and shopping. The service was great! The complimentary breakfast was a real treat and a money saver. We met other guests from all over the United States and enjoyed visiting with them.

The San Fransisco Treat
By ,
When you walk through the front doors of The Westin St. Francis you just have to stop for a second and look up and say, "WOW" ! The Lobby is just simply a beautiful impressive entrance. The famous clock is right there, giant columns as I remember, rich woodwork, marble everywhere. I walked in and said, "I like it!" The rooms were a little smaller than other high end hotels we have stayed at but very comfortable, very well appointed. I was disappointed the hotel did not have a pool or spa. They have an arrangement with a gym down the street but you have to pay to use it. I never did, as there was plenty to do! The hotel is in a great location, there is soo much to see close-by. The San Fransisco Trolley dropped us off 3 steps from the hotel entrance. The staff was very professional, and knowledgable. The lounge and resturants were great, we were very satisfied and it was just a great trip. It was so refreshing after spending the day site-seeing to come back the The St. Francis and Relax to the Max. I was very impressed with this grand hotel in the city by the bay.

Recommend another hotel
By ,
Stayed at the hotel on August 5th for our 30th anniversary. We had pre-ordered champagne for the room. It was not delivered and when we brought this to the front desks attention we were challenged and after checking they did find out that the champagne was not delivered. No apology was offered. The room had a chair that was needed to be replaced (the chair was showing threads and stained. A letter was written to the hotel management and no response has been received (2 weeks has passed). I would recommend staying at another hotel in San Francisco.

Very nice service.
By ,
Very nice service. Place nickles and dimes you... Service and location were great. Getting charged $12 a day to use the fitness center is a joke. When you pay over $200 to stay somewhere, being charged to workout at the hotel's gym is ridiculous. Never had that happen at a Ritz, Hyatt, or Four Seasons -- was shocked it happened at the St. Francis. The towels in the bathroom were also not soft -- felt more like workout towels. Place is beautiful, however.

St. Francis changes for worse
By ,
Stayed at St. Francis in April 2006 for $204/night. Last stay there was 2000, before the Union Square "renovation". I was very disappointed in the changes. Internet access $13.95/day, fitness room also costs daily. Compass Rose, a favorite for afternoon tea, gone; now some overpriced eatery called Michael Mina. Room service forgot to clean room one day, had to call them in. Towels had black spots on them. Shower/sink handles all fall off easily. Double heavenly shower head is a gimmick (overall flow is still poor). Bowl of oatmeal in Oak Room $9!!! Give me a break! SF isn't THAT exclusive. St. Francis has lost it's shimmer. Will try boutique hotel next time, hopefully with better results.
