Not the Ritz- but better than these reviews

I stayed here and attended the ECHL All-Star game in Rabobank Arena which is a couple of blocks away. As noted, this place also has good access to Amtrak which is basically across the street. The staff was friendly. While a little worn in places, the part of the hotel I stayed in was in good repair and clean. No problems with hot or cold water. The building I stayed in had had the stairwell enclosed....so there was no chance for a homeless person to take up residence there. However, this is not the greatest part of town, and I certainly did see homeless folks wandering around in the immediate vicinity. I didn't notice any bad smells in the room. However, the little fridge had not been turned on and was warm. Since it was January, I can't say I tried the pool or AC. Breakfast included coffee, tea, juice, cereal, hard boiled eggs, those make-your-own waffles, mini donuts, toast, and english muffins. No complaints there. The building I stayed in was a little noisey --i.e. sounds of people in the hall, in other rooms, walking in the room above.....but not a lot worse that other places I had stayed. I had look at staying at the nearly Marriott --but since if was the official hotel for the All Star game...it was a LOT more expensive. Also this hotel had free computer usage in the lobby which was a nice touch. So while I suspect there are much nicer places to stay, I thought this place was fine and a good value for the money. After I had read some of these reviews, I was prepared for the worse.......so it seemed to have been much improved from the time these folks had stayed there. It does have also have close access to the Rabobank complex and the Bakersfield Art Museum.
