Surf Motel, Carlsbad

This motel is literally across the street from the beach and within walking distance to all the night life Carlsbad has to offer. We stayed in one of the back rooms that offered a kitchenette, it was clean and fairly large. Right outside our room was a little garden complete with a table and 2 chairs, very quiet. They also have a cute little pool. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. I would recommend this motel to anyone who wants a clean room, a place to rest your head, and if you would rather walk to your location. If you are looking for all the bells and whistles of a resort, this place probably isn't for you. If I ever find myself back in Carlsbad, I will be staying here!

In the middle of everything, but quiet. Terrific value. Could use some updating. Great service. Large rooms. Helpful and polite staff. Everything in walking distance.

The Surf Motel is a small, funky, beachy little place that really fills the bill if you want someplace inexpensive, clean and across the street from the beach. It is steps away from hotels that charge 3 times the price, and it is just fine for a place to sleep. It is very clean, with a friendly staff. The rooms are small, but with the charm of Carlsbad you don't spend much time in the room anyway. Nice free breakfast. I didn't need to use my car at all the 3 days I was there, as everything was within walking distance. The bad news is, it has been sold to a large chain and will be torn down to build yet another overpriced resort hotel. So if you want to take advatage of one of the best beach bargains, you'd better hurry!

the woman in front of me was quoted a walk in price $20 less for the same room i had reserved on yahoo travel. the hotel is located across the street from the beach and the rooms in back were very quiet. i was in the san diego area for a week and this was the best hotel at half the price of others

My husband and I had taken our 3 year old to Sea World for the day and on the way back, we decided to stop at a hotel because we were dreading the long drive back to L.A. We found the Surf Motel and were lucky enough to get the last available room. The night desk manager was very nice and upgraded us to a room with a spa tub. We were very comfortable there and the location was great. Literally steps from the ocean. This is not a luxury hotel at all. It is simply a motel with a great location and very reasonable prices. We did not plan to stay in the room all day so we did not mind the lack of elegance. We were right across from the beach and had a fantastic time. We will return again and again.

This is our great vacation after 5 years and on this place we have good time. Great location, nice clean room and very personal service from each front desk person. You can't beat price with great location. When ever we come to this city and we will choose this small Motel with great exprience. Cross street from beach and 3 miles from Legoland and walking distance to many restaurants made our stay very comfortable.
