Handlery Hotel San Diego, San Diego

This expensive low-quality hotel does not stand up to other nearby hotels that I personally visited; I went to 5: Marriott, Best Western, Hilton, Quality Inn, Comfort Suites. This hotel's rates were higher than other options without the quality to back it up Parking costs extra, ballpark of $12 per day. There is an exorbitant charge held for "incidentals" ($100 per night which came to $300 total for me, compared to $50 total or $0 total from other hotels). When I refused to allow the $300 charge I was left feeling very un-welcome but they still gave me a room for fear of losing my business. No elevators. The room had a filthy dirty carpet which literally turned brand-new white socks black within the first three minutes walking in the room after check-in, and filth continued to also be a problem each day after a maid enters to "clean"; and made bare feet visibly revoltingly dirty. Hole in tile on wall in shower. Very dated and poor quality shower and bath fixtures. No option for 2 queen beds (only 1 for 2 double beds). We got a king mattress but where would the kids sleep? Roll away bed costs extra ($10 per night), no hide-a-way bed. Why bed my children on the floor after knowing how un-clean the carpet was and continued to be? No extra chair or sofa in room, as is common in competing hotels. Part of curtain hanging or dangling off curtain rod (not clipped in place).

I stayed here last May. From outside it looked ok. The lobby looked great. They had a nice pool area and it looks like they have a bar there too but it was closed when I was there. The crab cake at the restaurant was great. Rooms are nicely done and very comfortable. They have flat screen TV and mini fridge (no charge) in the room. Their bathrooms are a bit small though. The price for my room was a bit high than what I would be spending. But the service at this hotel was amazing. Keep up the good work. They charge for parking ($12 per day). Hoped it was a little cheaper than that. They are very close to the mall (2 blocks away) and less than 10 minutes from downtown San Diego. About 5 minutes from the Zoo and Seaworld and the hotel offers a shuttle to the zoo and Seaworld.

I brook king side room through yahoo travel they didn't have my room so I got standard room hotel clerk told me they refund my first night which they didn't then they charge me $25 dollar and they have no clue on the charge. the toilet sound like to going to blow up when you flush.

Hotel rooms have virtually no sound proofing. Hot water was non existant the morning of our check out. Front desk manager was absent and no rate adjustment was ever credited. However one day parking fee was generously credited. Handlery hotels is out of our list.

I guess for the price of over $120 a night plus $12 parking it could have been worse, but I still expected more for the money. The good things were fresh clean carpet, and mostly updated bathrooms (minus the shower) and the beds were ok, and being right on the freeway it wasn't too noisey. The bad things were that I felt like I'd been sent to prison or maybe the military dorms. There wasn't anything pretty about this place.No flowers, no artwork on the walls in the hallways or in the rooms. Don't they give you some money when you get out of jail, here we had to pay.It wasn't bad enough to go to the trouble of getting out of our reservation, but I did feel very depressed after staying and would never go back there again.

Nasty lady at the front desk at check in. Room stunk....No exhaust fan in bathroom...bed was awfull....may back and neck were killing me when i got up.....$12.00 parking fee????? THATS NUTS.....I travel frequently.....I would NEVER stay there again. I will advise friends against it. No water pressure. That's crazy. what a dump!!

Our family had a wedding booked there Sept 8th 2007. The first incident is that about a month before the wedding they double book and had to change our room, which ended up being a nice room ( but that was after a very intense negotiation) The day of the wedding the banquet manager for that day ( a man) whose name I didn’t get was very uncooperative and non helpful. The waiter staff, anything we asked they to do regarding set-up ...they advised us that was not their job and that they didn't do that (things like put out special glasses on one table or to put chopsticks at each place). It wasn't until Ester the evening banquet manager came in did anything get done. Also there was a decorated broom that was part of the wedding that suddenly disappeared from the room. The ceremony site is beautiful, but that is about all. The rooms are old and nothing special. Manny at the front desk was helpful and the security guard who went us because our keys didn’t work. Other than those 3 people the experience at the Handerly was TERRIBLE!

One of the nicer hotels that we have staid in. Fairly certally located. Nice pool and hot tub. The food in the Postcards restaraunt was outstanding. The employees were friendly and very helpful.

Location was awesome. Close to everything. I booked the room through Priceline and learned a good lesson. I might as well paid full price and got a nicer hotel. By the time I paid for nightly parking and internet the hotel was no deal and nothing special. The staff and the front desk was just ok. Housekeeping however was incredibly friendly and nice. When we arrived we noted that the remote control was missing. We called and after a bit of a run around we were told they'd bring up a new remote immediately. It was more like 2 hrs or so. The restaurant as well as room service ends at 9:30pm. We arrived back at the hotel at 9:45pm hungry for a snack only to find there were no vending machines with anything but pop and no restaurant or room service open. I would stay there again only if nothing else was available. I've been to worse but I've also paid less for much much nicer.

Room was not really what we imagined. Just not overally clean or nice. It was worth the stay for the pool, hottub and awesome location. People very courteous. Quick and easy room service.
