Request hidden costs before reserving!
By Catherine, 12/28/10
The Rancho Bernardo Inn has very lovely grounds. However, for the price it isn't that great. At the end of our 2 night stay, are bill included parking fees for the use of their parking lot, internet fees (of which we did not use as we do not own a computer), grounds fees and taxes of which are totally unacceptable and should be stated up front prior to reserving your room. Bathroom shower nozzle plastic adjuster fell off without even touching it. No instructions as to how to use the TV or how to turn off the lighting beneath the bed. Phone did not work. Toilet seat was sticky (yuck!) The room was NOT cleaned appropriately! (I did not report the filthy toilet seat). I cleaned it with rubbing alcohol myself. Once other items were reported, it was handled efficiently. The people / employees are very friendly, but it is a very poorly ran facility and overly rated. I will not go back to this resort.

Nice but not a great value
By Smitty, 8/10/09
We were attending a wedding and needed two rooms which were very expensive for what you get. They added on for resort fees that we did not know about until check in. They told us we had a discount for the wedding but it was still very expensive. The rooms are very average but roomy. The grounds and golf course are awsome, we did not get to use the spa. The service was very poor. We called for directions which were wrong and then the front desk hung up on us! Not very helpful and didn't know much about the wedding plans. The bellmen was helpful though. Overall, a below averge experience.

It was nice
By ChristinaJ, 6/25/09
We stayed at the Ranco Bernardo as a member of a wedding party. The room was very clean and had a contemporary feel. We paid around $375 for our room, for a one night stay. We didn't have a chance to use the inn's ammenities, but the room was slightly above average when comparing it to the other hotels within a five mile ratius that are much cheaper. For a special event, I would recommend the Ranco Bernardo. If you just need a place to stay for the night, I would look elsewhere.

Just "Ehhh . . ."
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/2/07
This resort is overrated. First of all, the service is TERRIBLE. We reserved a two Queen bedroom but when we got to the resort, they told us that they gave our room away and instead reserved us a one King-bedroom. I don't know about most people, but I expect to get what I reserved. That's the whole point of reserving! We had no choice but to get this room because this was a busy holiday weekend. Second of all, when I called in to the front desk to inquire about breakfast, the lady did not seem to know much about this hotel. Instead, she had an attitude and a nasty tone and told me to call back tomorrow morning. Not only is the service horrible, but the cleanliness is a little drab as well. There was a huge yellow spot on one of our pillows and on the sheets. I would not recommend this place mostly because the service was horrible. I don't know how other people rated its service as outstanding.

Could Use a Remodel
By Dawn Ohlendorf, 1/2/06
The rooms were rather substandard for over $250 a night. The vents were dirty (black dirt) on the ceiling, the bathrooms needed a remodel as well. The atmosphere is very nice though. The pool and patio dining are wonderful with nice views. If clean rooms are important to you, I would save the money and go to the Hilton Garden Inn, a new hotel just up the street. The service there was also very good, but the pool area is not nearly as nice.

Great place for first timers to San Diego . . .
By MDroz, 9/10/05
We are a family of four looking to stay at a 4 star hotel for the first time and this place was perfect. We have two 6 year old boys and I was afraid that we would be at a place that didn't really welcome families with small kids. This place has a kids camp so you can go and have a relaxing time alone and also has two pools that accomodates adults looking for weekend getaways (adults only pool)and for families there was a family pool. The only comments is that we were in room 202 and it seemed like it was very secluded from the rest of the rooms. They do have a bug issue. We had one spider and ants. They came and sprayed and we never saw them again. It didn't deter us from the beautiful golf course views and gorgeous landscaping. Dinner at the Viranda is a must, but a little pricey. Well worth it though. We were able to buy all of the tickets for Sea World, Zoo and Legoland. They also gave us direction cards and all the services you need. We will be back soon.

Comfort and Class
By Dawn, 6/11/05
Starting with check in, we met one friendly person after another. We travel with our pooch and he was welcome to stay in our room. The room was comfortable, very nicely furnished and had a private balcony. We stayed over the Christmas holiday and were able to have family stop by and comfortably visit with us in the room. There was a basket of fruit and cheese and crackers in the room when we arrived. Our stay at the Rancho Bernardo Inn was a real treat.

Avoid the stairwell at all costs!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/25/04
I must say that the hotel services were on point. Good housekeeping, good room service. However, I found sleeping here to be next to impossible. ROOM 701 is RIGHT next to the stairwell, and I could hear guests and staff members going up and down the stairs at ALL HOURS (so much for the construction of the building). To make matters worse, I was awakened by sawing and drilling on the 2nd morning of my 3-night stay at 7:30 AM!! I called the front desk and politely asked if they could postpone the construction, or landscaping, or whatever the devil was going on, and they said okay, but the noise kept up for another HOUR! I called the front desk a second time, and the front desk clerk says he will ask the construction workers to "pipe down until about 9:00" ??????? I had already lost an hour of sleep, and all he could offer me was 30 more minutes??!! This is absurd, and of course, the noise didn't stop then, either, so I decided to go with Option 3: Express Checkout. It really was THAT BAD. I was forced out into the rain by poor customer service and noise pollution. The pest problem was another major issue. I do not expect to be greeted by a big spider every morning for $270.00 a night. All in all, the worst hotel experience of my life. Very undeserving of a AAA 4 diamond rating.
