dirty, poorly maintained

I checked out and left my bags in storage so I could take care of some things downtown. I came back several hours later to get my bags and was told that I owed $150 for damage to a desk chair. According to them I somehow ripped a chunk out of the back of the chair. I have no memory of doing anything that could've damaged the chair. The damage was substantial enough that you couldn't cause it without noticing it. Furthermore, the chair wasn't even in the room when they showed it to me. I had no way of knowing if it was even the same chair that had been in my room.
Additionally, the chain lock on the door was broken, the volume button on the TV remote didn't work, the coffee maker and shower were filthy, and the bathroom was infested with ants. I regret staying at this dump just to save a few bucks. Now I'm going to have to waste my time fending off their attempts to collect on this bogus damage charge. If you have to stay here, make sure that before you check in you do a walk through of the room with an authorized employee and document in writing the damage to the room. Do the same thing when you check out.
