Different than other ES, but still nice

I stay at Embassy Suites whenever possible but this one is set up a little differently and had a couple of issues. First, my room wasn't available due to someone extending their stay. The hotel was overbooked due to Cal Poly move and it took quite awhile to find another available room. There were upgraded rooms available but the hotel didn't seem willing to do this, even though it was their error. I think they were hoping I would change my room-type request. The hotel is located in a shopping complex near the freeway. Being near shopping and restaurants is convenient, but the freeway is noisy. I don't know if my original room wouldn't have been facing the freeway. The hotel itself was on the noisy side (and not from all the college students moving in). I heard the elevators, water from bathrooms, generators, etc. The atrium is very nice, but completely open, no park-like setting so I think any activity in the atrium is carried throughout the hotel. The rooms are very comfortable, plenty of space, especially for families.
The indoor pool, evening reception and full breakfast are all pluses. Considering the amenities, Embassy Suites is a good value. I would most likely stay at this Embassy Suites again when I am in SLO, will just know what to expect on my next visit.
