Decent. Not terrible. Not fantastic
When I first found out that I would be staying here from Hotmail.com which doesn't tell you what hotel you're staying at until after you book the room, I was really nervous and worried that I my birthday trip was going to be ruined. However, my boyfriend and I enjoyed our 3 night stay here. It wasn't as nice as staying at the Marriot or the Hilton, but for the $88 plus $11 parking fee that we paid, it was pretty good. (Note: Almost all of the hotels in the area charge a parking fee. When we stayed at the hyatt and at the hilton the parking fee was much higher.)
From my own experiences and what I've read from other people's reviews prior to my trip, I think that I would probably recommend this hotel only for couples or singles. People with children and larger groups seemed to have more problems. The staff was very friendly to us, and the room was very clean. The rooms are on the smaller size but are furnished nicely. Good water pressure in the shower, which unfortunately has only a window to vent out the steam etc. instead of a fan. My only real problem was with the pillows which I found too firm, although my boyfriend didn't mind them at all. The rooms operate on a key light system to turn stuff on, so if you're AC/bathroom lights don't work, make sure someone put a keycard in the slot before you call to complain.
The walk to disneyland is about a fifteen minute walk, and it's best to cut through the California Grand hotel as you're walking up Walnut. By going into the hotel and turning left through the atrium area, you'll pop out in the middle of Downtown Disney, shaving off ten minutes from your walk. I didn't think it was a hard walk at all, but if you have small children, it would probably be a problem. There is a shuttle option next to the hotel, but that shuttle doesn't seem to come by frequently, so it's faster to walk to the parks.
All in all, we would probably stay at this hotel again, as long as the rates for the room were around $80 a night. If the rooms cost a hundred, then you might as well bail and stay at the marriot which has a shuttle to the park. It was very quaint and pretty looking, but didn't have that large hotel feel to it that I sometimes feel like.
