Perfect Location and very nice hotel.
By ,
I liked the location, centrally located in the Civic Center easily walk to Market Street for easy access Union Square, Embarcadero, shops, and cable cars. Very clean and nicely kept room. Complimentary breakfast was very nice, bagels, English muffins, muffins, plenty of fruit, and hard boiled eggs. Front desk staff is amazing, very quick on all of our requests. Valet parking a little expensive, $25, but worth it if you don't want to walk far for parking. Besides the meters are usually 6-8 hour limits and other parking lots charge $20 dollars for overnight anyway, plus, you have to walk. We recommend renting a car for San Francisco! Walk to Market Street for street car ($2 all day) and take it to either Union Square or all the way to Embarcadero.

Unfortunately a bad experience
By ,
When I arrived at the hotel I was friendly welcomed and was told to park on their valet for $ 12.50. For my surprise, in the check-out, the charged me for $ 25.00 For me, it is just unacceptable! Be careful, when we are told something, ask then to write down what they say.

Quaint little hotel but quite a few quirks
By ,
My husband & I just returned last Saturday from celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary at the Inn @ The Opera. We were given a 2 bath deluxe room on the 7th floor...room was nice & spacious but.....our 2nd night we found that none of the baseboard heaters worked! We reported this & they brought 2 PORTABLE HEATERS to the room(this made us believe that this was a known problem to them). We thought we'll make do with this.Wrong. While ironing our clothes the electricity "tripped" in the room since apparently their system was obviously overloaded. We were left in the dark & cold. We tried to make do & reported this the next day. They came but did nothing & basically left us with the portable heaters again. To make a long story short we tolerated this for FIVE NIGHTS & then they offered to move us to a similar room when those residents left since they said it'll take a while to correct the problem. The move was good (to the 6th floor)but by this time I was personally fed up.While we were on the 6th floor, we heard residents in the room we vacated the same day & which was right above us!Obviously they didn't fix anything, so as I said before, it seems that the problems are pre-existing & they just don't fix it. For the nightly rate charged one should not have to tolerate this.Like one of the viewers said there's a "tip" bill folder for the "complimentary breakfast" which they presented with alacrity each day. This was a great annoyance to me.Additionally, the breakfast was boring(mostly produced from boxes & packets) & were cling-wrapped for each consecutive day .The breads were STALE...I even saw some mildew on the bread & the CUT bananas were also recycled(one could see the browned edges). Our new rental car was dented & badly scratched by their "valet parking" & they pretended to not have any knowledge of how it was damaged...we had to complete a report with our rental car company....luckily we had full coverage on the car.Internet which is located in the lobby area (totally not private)was non-existent...forget about having any connection in your room. The staff are friendly but that doesn't compensate for the aggravation we had to go through.Don't think we'll stay there again.

It was good
By ,
I liked the service, and the WONDERFUL con- tinential breakfast. The location was OK, but could have been better. I wished it was either closer to Haight Ashbury, Club Fugazi,or the wharf. I enjoyed the rooms very much, and the beds were not only comfy but well made. I am planning another visit to a Shell Hospitality Resort (Suites at Fishermans wharf) in August 06' and hope it will be just as good or better.

Tremendously fantastic experience
By ,
There was not a thing we did not like. Have traveled frequently and the Inn was in the top three places we have been. It is quaint, cozy, intimate and the way we were treated could not be improved! Hope to return soon. Carlos and his team are SOOOO excellent!

broadband-not
By ,
Ignore what this site says about broadband in every room. There is only dialup and a kiosh in the lobby. It seems many of the checkins have complained about this.

Back to the good old days
By ,
It was a great place to feel like you were going back in time. Not exactly a HUGE room that I stayed in but that made it all the more quaint in my opinion!

An Inn indeed
By ,
I booked this "INN" through Expedia. I paid a sale price of $99.00. They put my husband and I in a cramped room where there was little room to barely walk around the bed and the closet door could not fully open as the bed would stop it from. The television is in the closet. The staff is helpful and couteous however they leave their "tips appreciated" signs in full view and even have a tip box on the bill for the "complementary" breakfast. Keeping all this in mind, my major complaint is the coffee packets left in the room. There is a $1.75 charge for requests for extra coffee packets. I assumed this meant per day only to find (to my dismay) that I was charged 3.50 for requesting another decafand caf packet the second day of our stay. I told the maid that she must have forgotten to put more in the room and she could not speak much English so I did not know I would be charged until checkout. This petty charge really bothered me. I would have had an excellent latte at Starbucks for that amount.
