Suites at Fishermans Wharf, San Francisco

The last couple of people that made remarks, must not have stayed at Suites at Fishermans Wharf, the same place that my husband and I stayed at in April. The hotel was exceptional the service by the staff was beyond compare. Our suite was more than expected, the room was extemely clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in the heart of San Francisco.

This place is a complete dive! There is air conditioning in the whole building except the rooms! The rooftop is still not fixed and the balconies are very unsafe looking. The staff is rude and unhelpful. Just because you have a reservation doesn't mean you have parking space! The room was musty smelling and so was the bedding. The bed was very uncomfortable. The kitchen had no microwave as promised and was nothing more than a waste of space. The whole place was hot and uncomfortable and I will never stay there again. For $300 a night I want a little value at least.

November 2006 for 5 days. Good and bad. The Suites' front door is right on the Cable Car line. You can walk 20 steps and flag down the Cable Car at the intersection (if it is not already full) or walk downhill one block to the turnaround. There's a Starbucks in Cannery Row which is right beside the Cable Car turnaround. Ghirardelli Square is one block away - with great restaurants and shopping. A street car/bus stop at Suites' intersection will take you to Union Square. The F-Line trolley line is two blocks (down hill) and will take you into the theatre district / Union Square and right past the Embarcadero on the way back. Pier 39 or Fisherman's Wharf is five blocks (two downhill blocks and the rest on the level) from the Suites�. There's a large Safeway three blocks from the Suites� but it is an uphill climb with the groceries on the way back. The underground parking is very cramped but at $20 per day, it is cheap for San Fran. We turned in our rental, used our CityPass and walked. We took a bus to Union Square and rented a car from the large garage on O'Farrell when we needed one. The Suites� is an older building (1960's?) and not fancy. If it was really old, it would have more charm. The staff is very friendly. DO NOT plan on sleeping on the fold-out couch as the mattress on ours was less than 1/2 inch thick. If you have children, it would be better to put the mattress on the floor. No A/C and our rear yard (very quiet), south-facing suite was a little warm if we left the windows closed. Roof-top patio is CLOSED for renovations and we were not told this in advance. Because they are renovating the roof-top, everyone was asked to stay off their balcony for safety reasons. Pay as you go wireless. We would stay there again.

Parking was too expensive at $20. and it was all crammed into this tiny space with others that could dent your doors or even be where you could get it hit by another. I loved the colors, the view of Alcatraz and the bay off our balcony. Really nice place. Daily Maid service. The pool was being redone, or was it just the top of the roof. Not sure, couldn't go up on it. It was a 2 bedroom, and had a pull out sofa in the living room too. Nice kitchen with all the stuff, but there is no oven, only a microwave and two small stove top areas to cook on, making it difficult for a family of 5 to eat in very often. Shopping is a trick too, as you have to drive, and it's up hill both ways to walk. Overall, it was great though. I will definately be back. Having it as a time share use is great too.

I loved the balcony view that gave our room the perfect touch. The rooms were well equipped, but coffee & phone calls were a little pricey.The maid service was lovely,and my room was sparkling clean every day. Having the cable car clank by the room every day was nice and conveinant. Having the wharf so nearby was beautiful. One thing,though I would've liked to have an oven in my room. The 1st floor lounge was not only conveineint,but pretty and comfortable.

Excellent value for the price. Very large living room. Nice to have a kitchen included with the room. Great view of the bay! Towels in the bathroom very nice.

Located 3 blocks up from the Wharf, The Suites is convenient to most activities in the area. There is a bus stop directly in front of The Suites, and The Hyde Street Cable Car runs along side of it. Thus the noise. The stop in front of the Suites is one which is services by "The Owl", the all night bus service. Although the Cable Cars dont run all night long, the line(cable) of the cable car runs throughout the night, and it is considerably loud. The rooms on the corner or facing the street are probably the noisiest, from all reports the interior rooms are very quiet. Given the chance though, I'll stay here again.
