Horrid Experience. You've been warned.
By Eric K, 12/6/11
My girlfriend and I checked into the Hotel Angeleno last Saturday the 26th. We are in a long-distance relationship so I wanted to treat her to a nice place on her last night here. I booked a suite knowing that we may want to entertain some friends of mine in the area. Overall it was the worst experience I’ve ever had coming from Hotel staff, and here are the reasons why. 1. Major problem – When I check in they say there’s been a problem, due to construction my suite was not available. To make up for it, they offered a room at a discount or two connecting rooms at the same price. Seriously what am I going to do with two bedrooms, that’s useless. I took the one room at a discounted price, but more importantly, why wasn’t I made aware of this construction before checking in??!!! 2. INEXCUSABLY MAJOR PROBLEM – The night man Diego declaring we are kicked out of the hotel. Let’s start at the beginning. Our guests and us leave the bar upstairs just as it’s closing to go back to our room. (Now’s when it would of have been better to have a suite.) We decided to try and see if it was too late to order a bottle of wine to the suite to entertain our guests. My girlfriend calls down to the front desk (Diego) to see if this was possible. Diego tells her to go up to the bar and get it there. She has the impression after talking to him that we just need to go up there and pick it up. (Being the concierge, why didn’t he just call up?) I walk up to the bar, which seems pretty closed down. I talk to a man in a jacket who works there, he says there is no way. I go back down to the room empty handed, my girlfriend is confused because she was under the impression they were expecting me up there. We go down to see Diego. When we explain what just happened, Diego starts by quizzing us. “Did you call room service? Who did you talk to upstairs? Was it the bar manager? Go back up and talk to the bar manager.” It is immediately obvious that he is playing games, as he knew that my girlfriend had just called him on the phone about this and not room service. I explain (and am getting angry at this point because I would just like a straight answer) that I don’t know what the position was of the person that I talked to upstairs, I didn’t appreciate being shuffled around the hotel, and he should call up there for us to find out. He goes back into the office and gets on a walkie-talkie to try to talk to someone upstairs. When he comes back he explains that they are all gone and there’s nothing he can do. At this point my girlfriend has gotten angry (and it all could of have been avoided if he just acted like a concierge and called up to the bar for us from the beginning) and tells him he’s doing a bad job. At this Diego completely flips out. He says we are “Kicked off the premises! You can’t have your wine and you talk about my job. You’re out!” Yes, for real. Jesus man, just say you’re terribly sorry about the confusion but the bar is closed. Obviously I told him we weren’t going anywhere and that we would speak to a manager in the morning. I was livid. Our guests are upstairs, not in a suite that I ordered, and we’re sent on a wild goose chase looking for a simple bottle of wine that ends in being, “Kicked off the premises!” 3. Last Major Problem – When I checked out, I asked to see the manager. I explained the problem to Scott Gordon, Rooms Division Manager of Joie de Vivre hotels. He was very receptive and visibly shocked at my experience. I must assume now that it was all an act. He gave me his card and explained that he would talk with Diego and get in contact with me, perhaps comping a room should I decide to stay again. After not hearing anything from him over the past week I can assume that was an empty gesture. I honestly have no desire to stay there again do to the enormity of the insult I felt from Diego even if it was free.

Great decor & bed; unsafe shower.
By Colleen, 12/1/06
Positives: wonderful, friendly, generally helpful staff; convenient location; very nice decor with the most comfortable bed we've experienced in a hotel; convenient balcony; sharp flat screen tv with a decent number of channel options; very quiet even though we faced the 405. Negatives: Take a bath; we couldn't regulate the water temperature in the shower. We stayed 3 nights over Thanksgiving and had problems the whole time. During a shower, the water would get icy cold, then moderate, then get icy cold, and then occasionally turn very, very hot. We were told at the front desk that they had been experiencing problems and that it was being worked on. You might want to check and see if corrections have been made if you prefer showers. Also, there were no towel bars in the bathroom. Lastly, there is limited on street parking and the hotel parking is $18.00/night + valet tips.

Friendly Service!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/7/06
The rooms are stylish, clean and comfortable. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I had room service and the food was excellent. It was on the expensive side, though. $50. for one person. I didn't like the fact that the hotel is surrounded by major highways with no place to walk if you want to buy food outside the hotel. They offer a free shuttle within 3 miles, but the means a cost with the tip.

Great Experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/12/06
I stayed at this hotel for 5 days while visting friends in LA. My friends told me this hotel was far from things and that I would have to drive but that was not the case. I found the hotels location gave me easy access to westwood village, santa monica, malibu, hollywood, rodeo drive, calabasas all within 20 minues. Sunset in the Hollywood area and even Santa Monica looked a bit dumpy to me and I think they are a great place to visit and you would need a car to get around from those locations as well so I am happy with the hotel location I choose and this hotel. My room was great and it had a small balcony, no odors, great A/C, nice views of the mountains and great sunsets. I had a restful sleep and I did not hear the highway and the outdoor pool and gym were great. I was able to check my email in the business center and the restaurant had great city views.

Great Place To Stay in LA
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/26/06
I would have given it a 5 rating, but the toilet was a bit out of sorts. The service was excellent and the room was small but nice. Reminded me of a W Hotel. The bed was wonderful.

Great Service Great Price
By Tim, 1/20/06
I am sorry to hear of the gentalman from Texas' bad experiance. I cannot speak for the lower rate rooms at the Brentwood I stayed in an executive suit located on the 11th floor, the bed was huge, the room furniture was fantastic and the overall room design was quite plesant, the bathroom was clean and overall was a very plesant and relaxing experiance. The best aspect of the hotel was probably the staff, at the time the hotel was undergoing a management change so I haven't been back since things have settled with that but the staff was absolutely fantastic, they were helpful, knowlageable and extremely plesant. I have stories of my LA adventures not all of them great but the staff went out of their way to help me, including compensating me for phonecalls I had to make to the local PD (LAPD) to track down where they had towed my car. The surrounding area is an Upper-class area, a great place to drive around, it's hilly and just a very plesant view. One downside of the hotel is that 3/4 of it gives you a great view of the 405...but the construction of the rooms is such that you don't hear any of the road noise I would reccomend getting a room facing to the west however then you are looking at a massive rock cliff. There are plenty of businesses within quick reach of the hotel and the hotel has a resturant located on the top floor with a brilliant view of the surroundings and pretty decent burgers the fries arn't the best so you might want to get somthing to substiute them if your order happens to include them. There is internet access available and it is quite fast for hotel services it was free at the time of my stay I don't know if that has changed but I don't belive it has. The TV was a large I belive LCD HDTV but the reception was fair to poor at best, They also tag you with phone charges if you have to use the phone in your room so I suggest taking a cellphone and charger with you. Good luck in your travels and I hope this has been helpful to you.

Nothing but disappointment
By Renee P, 8/22/05
The description seemed great -- super location, retro building, etc. This hotel is grungy. The staff is rude and the service was unbelievably poor. The bathrooms were clean. I still have an amount on my credit card bill that I dispute.
