Huntington Suites, Huntington Beach

The place is really a motel/apartment - it's an old motel. The glass cage the clerks were behind should have been my first clue of our adventure to come. We had two rooms, one was nice and one was not. We had to get rooms on the first floor where there are apartment dwellers. The dwellers next to our room started their day a around 10:00 PM and shut down around 5:30 AM. People were coming and going at all hours. The dwellers across from us had a yelling match the first night and kept us awake (she won and he moved out). The other room was quiet and much nicer than ours. The staff was very polite and acommodating to changes and requests. The towels were like sand paper, so bring your own. I had to unplug the refrigerator because it scared me when it turned on - I literally jumped it was so loud. The room rate was reasonable, you sort of get what you pay for here. Just be aware of what you are getting and stay on the second floor. Rated 2.5 stars for lack of sleep and general creepiness.

Though I will return to Huntington Beach which is amazing, I will never again stay at this suites wannabe. It's a refurbished motel at best.. and not a good one! No maid service except once a week... we left on the day we got maid service after a 7 night stay. You get a hard time asking for clean towels. There are not so great people LIVING at this place permanently who curse, and cause noise all through the night in the public area, and they DO have pets. The kitchen was functional but run down, the pool faces the highway with no provacy from drivers, the pics show clean rooms.. these pics are from 10 years ago I think! The room carpet is run down and dingy. The bathtub was greasy and the drain didn't let the water out too well. There is NO security and several times we came back to our room to find the screen and window tampered with. Oh.. there was one entertaining thing... the homeless who go through the trash in the parkinglot - which btw.. you take out your own trash bag!!!

I've been going to Huntington Beach for the last few years and I stumbled upon this place a few years back. All of the rooms are suites and have full kitchen and dining areas. They have weekly rates that are much cheaper than nightly (there or anywhere else) so you end up saving money on accom as well as eating in. The hotel is older, but kept clean. The owners did some upgrades last year (painting, carpeting, etc.) and added wireless internet, so my stay in Aug was even better. About a mile from Main St, so i'll walk in (15 - 20 min) and get a cab back. Could be closer, but probably explains the reasonable rates, other then that, clean and quiet.
