One star for service & overall experience
Was here for a wedding, the lobby was nice, free internet in the lobby. The courtyard for the ceremony was beautiful! The reception room was long and oddly shaped. Typical reception food of chicken & salmon that wasn't very good, very bland. Got a suite for $129, 2 queen beds & a sofa bed. The room was big, with 2 tvs, and appeared clean. The bed was comfy. The bathroom had red spots on the tub and on the ceiling, odd. And there was a quarter-sized hole in the wall where the knob hits the wall, because there wasn't a door stopper. The tub and the sink wouldn't drain very fast, so you're standing on dirty water during your shower. It drained literally 20 mins AFTER I got out of the shower, and left a mess of suds and hair behind since it drained so slowly. Ok, minor issues that I can deal with.
But what really pissed me off about this place was the service. You'd think the service at a 3 or 4 star hotel would be superb. But honestly, I've gotten better service at a Red Roof Inn! Since we had 5 people in the room, I called before we arrived to ask for extra towels. Simple request, not provided. So I was the shafted one who had to dry myself with a tiny face towel. There's no free continental breakfast. Ok, that's fine, even though many other less nice hotels offer it. So I ordered room service, 3 pancakes with 3 sausages and fruit on the side, for what I thought was $5, as it states on the menu. Turns out, the menu was confusing because on one page it states kids menu, and apparently the kids menu continued to the next page where my pancakes were listed. So I didn't realize I was ordering from the kids menu, which is not allowed unless a kid was really eating it. But I ordered by its name, and there was no other items on the menu with that same name, so I don't understand how the front desk lady taking my order didn't catch that I was ordering off the wrong menu to clarify with me. And she didn't ask me if I was ordering it for a child either. She asked if this was for one person. Probably so she could charge me more if I said 2 people were sharing the food. So the food comes and it turns out to be $17 instead of the $5+tax+tip that I was expecting. My bill looked something like this:
$12 pancakes and sausages and fruit
$13 subtotal
$2.60 tip (automatic 20%)
$1.40 tax
Total = $17
Lemme ask you, how does a $12 dish come out to be a subtotal of $13? The person who delivered it had no idea either so she went to ask the front desk. The front desk calls me and explained that to have the fruit and whipped cream on the side costs $1 extra, which they didn't specify on the phone when I ordered it and also didn't list it on the bill. Yes, for those 2 extra little bowls to put my fruit and cream in, instead of putting it on the same plate as my pancakes, cost me $1. They nickle and dime you every chance they get, hoping you won't notice, instead of clarifying with you to make sure you'd be ok with the extra charges, to ensure that you would be a happy guest. The lady on the phone was quite rude in her tone to me as well, even though I did not raise my temper at all. I was even chuckling on the phone because the whole thing was just so unbelievable to me.
The cashier at the Starbucks was rude and not helpful at all. He rolled his eyes when my friend asked for a holder for the 2 cups of coffee, a bottle of OJ, and a breakfast sandwich that she ordered so she could bring it back to the room on her own. It's also $6 for a newspaper there instead of receiving it for free at your door every morning of your stay. Unbelievable! Other guests from the wedding had similar complaints about the service they received during their stay. My husband and I travel a lot, and we stay in hotels all the time, ranging from 2 to 5 star hotels. And I usually love Marriott's, we got engaged at a Marriott! But this is THE worst experience in a nice hotel that I have had. Yup, will never be back here again.
